I have been working at Hypertherm full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Ownership culture, shared rewards include profit sharing and HSOP, strong management team, on-site medical office, on-site fitness, focus on wellness (physical, mental, financial), heavily involved in the community (32 hours paid community service time), culture of continuous improvement, educational support, generous paid time off, focus on team based solutions, lean and green. I have a great leader too; he has a direct impact on my engagement and I work hard for him and for the company.

    Cons

Your experience and satisfaction can depend heavily on your area, team, and leader. Some areas have better work/life balance than others. I wish there were more opportunities to telecommute so that I could move out of the area but stay with the company.

    Advice to Management

Aim higher- strengthen leaders to inspire! Inspired Associates will get us where we want to go; don't accept lack of engagement and don't settle for simply engaged- aspire to inspire!! Keep up the good communication- Evan's humor during company meeting makes him relatable and credible; people want to follow him. Continue to seek excellence and be good leaders, but spend some time with other teams. How cool would it be to have members of management spend a couple of hours shadowing in teams outside of their focus so that they can appreciate what it takes to do what we do?

I have been working at Hypertherm full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

profit sharing is definitely the primary benefit of working at Hypertherm. The work environment is very safe and they have a strong culture.

    Cons

There is a lot of gossip and a very negative attitude on the production floor. Can't speak of the office side of the business but be ready to work with some very unprofessional and immature people.

I have been working at Hypertherm full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Culture, No lay off policy, good benefits, free fitness classes w/ onsite gym, paid community service opportunities, pay is decent, year end profit sharing

    Cons

Pay could be better for some positions they use the profit sharing and benefits as total rewards instead of separating the two and addressing it.

    Advice to Management

None - they do an excellent job and in weak areas they recognize it and try to improve

I have been working at Hypertherm full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This company truly cares about it's associate-owners, and the community.

    Cons

None really. Perhaps I would say there are limited office locations, but that is not a criticism.

I worked at Hypertherm full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Hypertherm really focuses on the Associate (employee is a forbidden word) and takes the associate perspective into most, if not all, decisions. The no layoff policy is testament to the fact that they value their responsibility more than most companies. Had I not moved from the area I would still consider it a privilege to work there.

Great people - especially in the regional offices

    Cons

Decision making can be very slow and tedious; sometimes the obvious answers don't get acted on quick enough.

No opportunity to work remote (unless in sales).

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, but don't let tradition dictate every decision. Don't let politics get in the way of making decisions and getting things done.

I have been working at Hypertherm full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Associate owned with a family feel
The company focuses a lot on the culture and trying to make this a better place to work
Training and development is good - sponsored degree program
Good benefits - profit share, stock, health, community service time
Strong focus on wellness with onsite physician and nurse
They are really trying hard to be a great place to work, if you are motivated and want to be part of a great organization that cares about their employees I would say Hypertherm is it.
    No layoffs

    Cons

Senior leaders are sometimes not as connected to the associates as they should be.
Some areas they lack resources so work life balance can be tough at times

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to the associates voices
    Keep salaries and benefits competitive

    Pros

    Continuous improvement culture.
    Employee ownership.
    Strategic leaders.
Great products that help individuals and businesses build, grow and become more successful.

    Cons

Strong interest in Associate development but in recent years insufficient funding for external training and conferences. Organization needs constant influx of new skills and ideas.
Need to continue to create a greater "accountability culture," both internally and with partners.

    Pros

Every associate is highly valued, as flat an organization of this size as you'll find, engaging business challenges to solve, extremely impressive founder and president

    Cons

No layoff policy sounds fantastic but can create an insular culture over time

    Advice to Management

Keep up the genuine focus on associate development!
