    I worked at Hypothesis

    Pros

This is a great company with a strong future: - Great work-life balance, values families and the employees’ happiness. - Senior management works very hard. I’ve heard of other companies where those in senior position don’t really have their hands on the execution part, but it wasn’t like that at Hypothesis. They work with you on proposals, questionnaires, and reports. If something gets out of control (too much shift...

    Cons

    - If you like to be safe, not comfortable with thinking outside of box, then this is not the place for you. - Didn’t see a standardized on-boarding materials for new hires when I was there and I know some people found it stressful because they had to sit down and walk them through everything, in addition to many other things they have on their plate. - Not everyone with the same title has the same skills/expertise and...

I worked at Hypothesis for less than a year

    Pros

Really enjoyed working with everyone. Super kind people who are always willing to help and clarify anything. Also thought the work was very interesting and data driven.

    Cons

As an intern, the work can start to get somewhat repetitive as time goes on. However, if you think big picture and really start to understand the larger trends and implications of the data, it can still be very rewarding.

I have been working at Hypothesis full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company does some beautiful work for some cool clients. It's a premium boutique that has been growing fast.

    Cons

Training is hands-on for all levels which means that some people who grew-up in the company that are great project managers are terrible people managers. Senior management is aware of these issues but doesn't not seem to care as long as clients are happy. This drives a lot of good people to seek opportunities elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Implement 360 reviews. Add management training. Split apart directors who are better at people from those who are better at client managers.

    I worked at Hypothesis full-time

    Pros

People up to mid/upper-level are cool. Creative team does a lot of fun and interesting things. Downtown location is a great place to be.

    Cons

Upper management and HR is inexperienced and their decisions reflect a reactive process. Hiring was done largely by headhunters. It seemed like a new title was created with each new hire. Salary progression was pretty slow, and as such, new hires were often brought in at higher salaries than their existing peers. Analytics team disintegrated pretty quickly. Went from 7 members to 3 in about a year. From what I've...

I worked at Hypothesis full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Smart and generally likable people, cool projects, big name clients, beautiful deliverables, nice benefits, decent work/life balance

    Cons

Roles (job descriptions and also expectations within project teams) could be better defined, support and opportunities for growth seem to vary dramatically from one engagement manager team to the next

    Advice to Management

Create more learning opportunities to teach managers how to manage and junior employees to develop into consultants, rethink project loads to avoid spreading employees too thin

    I worked at Hypothesis part-time

    Pros

The people in the company, the company culture, the pace of work, the clients

    Cons

Shifting deadlines associated with client-driven projects

    Advice to Management

Continue fostering a culture where people feel comfortable and obligated sharing experiences and knowledge with newer hires. This really allowed for a more enjoyable internship experience overall and more tangible skills imparted.

I worked at Hypothesis full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Beautiful office, nice building, emphasis on design

    Cons

The company is lead by “lifers” who form rigid opinions of new employees and then resist changing those views despite evidence that said employees have become more seasoned or possess talents that weren't apparent initially. I saw many smart, capable, employees get laid off for ridiculous reasons.

    Advice to Management

Conduct an annual employee engagements survey to gauge & track morale trends.

I have been working at Hypothesis full-time

    Pros

I’ve had the opportunity to work for market research firms of all sizes, from boutique firms, to large multi-national corporations. Hypothesis is, by far, the BEST place I’ve ever worked at! This is why: The culture is ‘people first.’ • They invests in their employees’ professional growth, not only by mentoring, but also by encouraging (and paying for) employees to attend courses, conferences, and workshops. •...

I have been working at Hypothesis full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The best word to describe Hypothesis is Creative. You see it in the way they design research, the way they package their signature deliverables, the website, blog, and branding, and even its management style. The tried-and-true methods are used for context, but are examined and questioned: is this the best way to do this? Is it interesting? Is it still meaningful? Is it boring? That gives the day-to-day work a certain...

    Cons

Some people have difficulty breaking out of the habit of "mechanical reporting" and instead illuminating the broader data story. Other people excel at it. Once you learn how to do it, it's hard to go back.

    Advice to Management

Continue to build company culture with trainings, happy hours, and other events. Just make sure we never have to do trust falls.
