I have been working at Hyundai Motor America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Just like any other work place, there is stress, deadlines, and work to be done in a timely and efficient manner. But what really sets Hyundai apart is the people. Plus the following: -1 1/2 weeks vacation every December, plus 2 weeks vacation (must be accrued) -Medical/Vision/Dental insurance -401K match -Gym -Library -Dry Cleaners -Cafeteria & coffee kiosk -Yearly bonuses & salary increase -Employee Resource...

    Cons

It's a bit of a gentlemen's club and a majority of the leadership team is older white males. There are few to no women in high leadership positions. The Korean culture has a strong presence. It is hard for change or new ideas to be passed since everything must be approved by the HQ in Korea. The employees do their best for the terms that have been set!

    Advice to Management

Continue to support and be flexible with your employees!

I worked at Hyundai Motor America full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good HR events, you'll get more free food /events to appreciate employees, communities, culture, etc. Company is small enough to know everyone you work with, but big enough to get global automotive industry experience

    Cons

Hard to get promotions, has a ceiling on how many promotions/new employees each department can add, which is approved by the mother-ship in Korea--count is very limited. Promotions, bonuses, transition from contract to full-time is all based on seniority/network and not based on how well you do your job. Not a great place for career growth.

I worked at Hyundai Motor America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Nice people, lots of work

    Cons

Even though Hyundai America is a US company the corporate office is "managed" by Hyundai in Korea. There are Korean "supervisors" in Fountain Valley and their only job is to report back to Korea what's going on. Salaries are low, many people are there because they need a job.

I have been working at Hyundai Motor America full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Benefits are great for non-exempt employees that are grade 7 and above - manager demo vehicle lease, travel opportunities, perks, etc. For grades below 7, you still get a great rate for an employee lease - up to 2 per household. Good training opportunities and employee discount to purchase vehicles.

      Cons

They are very strict about their internal DMV point system for company owned vehicles. Also, Hyundai has a horrible retention rate for millennial employees. Unless you are lucky enough to work with a pro-growth manager, the company does very little to foster or cultivate growth for its younger demographic. Diversity is definitely an issue, despite how hard Hyundai tries to build awareness by participating in and celebrating...

      Advice to Management

The best thing you can do for the company is provide genuine support for the brightest and most talented employees in the company. Talent management should put more effort into identifying the top employees and providing better compensation. Otherwise, you're left with mediocre and poor performing employees who are content with their jobs because they've been doing it for 25 years. Change is good.
