I worked at Hyundai Motor America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Nice people, lots of work

    Cons

Even though Hyundai America is a US company the corporate office is "managed" by Hyundai in Korea. There are Korean "supervisors" in Fountain Valley and their only job is to report back to Korea what's going on. Salaries are low, many people are there because they need a job.

I have been working at Hyundai Motor America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is a cafeteria in the building that is okay.

    Cons

Hyundai has been failing for the last 3-4 years. The company has lost hundreds of millions each year. Turnover is at an all time high. Upper leadership and middle management continue to be stagnant and push blame down to employees. Human Resources has become a joke. They keep talking about change and updates with no action taken. They continue to ignore employee opinions and employee survey results. If you are a...

    Advice to Management

Take a good look at your new division heads to see if they are impacting the business positively or negatively. Look at the employee turnover since they took over. It is a good indicator of their effectiveness from the employee standpoint. Even better institute 360 reviews so you can see who the quality managers are.

I have been working at Hyundai Motor America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Car lease privileges including insurance and maintenance (used to be more of a benefit as employees now pay more for lease cars)

    Cons

Completely unfocused and directionless. Management does not inspire as most are unqualified to manage. Advancement dependent on who you know not on solid performances proven by feedback and reviews. Virtually no females in upper management. No females in high positions. HR staff is incompetent Employees bear more and more of the cost of benefits each year, pay is uncompetitive. Little more than cost of living increase...

I have been working at Hyundai Motor America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Good people & job security

    Cons

Koreans have been in the US market for 30 years and still have zero understanding of it. Korean staff are here for 4-year terms and do not care about growing the brand. They only care about hitting an objective by hook or by crook. Each month the staff works fruitlessly to make an impact in the market but it is impossible to make a real, long-term difference. It's not just the Korean staff that makes things difficult....

    Advice to Management

You may not have authority to impact the way Koreans do business in the US (or at least continue to try) but you do have the authority to streamline processes and make the working environment easier to maneuver.

I have been working at Hyundai Motor America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people, good working environment, stable, nice location. Management and HR try to do the right thing. Good work-life balance.

    Cons

No clear objectives/business strategy, Korea runs the show - nothing significant can be done without their approval. Must be there 8.5 hours a day even for salaried positions, and during certain hours, or your manager will get a "report"

    Advice to Management

Press harder on Korea to agree to flexible working arrangements (flexible hours, working from home, etc.) Most successful companies have this already and you will keep losing people until you catch up.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Pay the employees better and provide a better selection of cars that actual can make a profit off of.

I have been working at Hyundai Motor America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work life balance can be accomplished depending on manager and how many meetings you decline.

    Cons

HMA beurocracy stalls every project. And if it doesn't, HMC beurocracy does. Everyone is a Senior Group Manager yet somehow has never managed a team. Morale is disastrously low company-wide and almost no one expects a bonus. VP's make a point of behaving in a demeaning fashion to show how powerful they are, and we have constant pointless meetings. Also, there aren't enough parking spaces so count on getting in really...
