I have been working at IATA full-time

    Pros

Great files, interesting colleagues from all over the world, great benefits

    Cons

Politics, lack of transparency, decisions made not based on efficiency but rather on pleasing people

    Advice to Management

Be transparent, direct, and make reasonable decisions, not whimsical ones

I have been working at IATA as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. You get to work with people from all over the world due to the high amount of Expats.
    2. You get to work in an international organization (work with people located in Geneva , Miami, etc)
    3. Vacation time. 4 weeks per year.
    4. Really fancy coffee machines. People take tons of coffee breaks during the day just to socialize and chill.

    Cons

    1. Really low chances to stay after your contract is done unless you are the best friend of your department's director.
    2. A lot of envy and rivalry between employees due to the lack of opportunity to grow up.
    3. Work extra hours and you don't get paid for that.
    4. A lot of bureaucracy. A lot paper work before a decision is made. A lot of useless meeting.
    5. H.C is an useless department that never listens to the needs of the employees. They only hire and fire people.
    6. If you dont accomplish your target sales goals, get ready to get laid off/fired.
    7. Geneva offices get more benefits than Montreal.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees. Dont over hire contactors every 6 months instead of that hire employees to decrease rotation.

I worked at IATA (More than a year)

    Pros

    International work environment
    Salary
    Pension plan
    Medical insurance

    Cons

    Lots of burocracy
Lack of skills for a lot of managers/directors
    Management by fear
A lot of managers actuially manage nobody

    Advice to Management

Listen to what everybody is saying when the boss is not there.
I knew less than 10% of people who were really happy to be there.
90% were staying because of the salary, and because they have no plan B

I have been working at IATA full-time

    Pros

    International Environment
    Aviation Field, fast paced industry

    Cons

    Extremely political driven organization
People are stuck to their "golden chair" and therefore prone immobility when it comes to development of products
Extremely weak management structure, with no vision, insight and no management skills

    Advice to Management

CHANGE the management teams, culture and look for efficiency rather than politically driven agendas
REMOVE the bipolar world between GVA and YUL

    Advice to Management

respect your people. believe in the values you have posted on every walls.

    Pros

Good salary and good people to work with (except HR).

    Cons

People connection is the key, not your knowledge nor performance.

    Advice to Management

    None as they won't listen.

    Cons

    - Terrible upper management
    - No long term incentive

I worked at IATA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get to meet people from all around the world, with great expertise and a real passion for aviation. Projects are interesting and the aviation industry is truely fascinating. You get to travel frequently depending on your role. Good benefits.

    Cons

You never know if today is your last day. Employees are scared of human resources. High turnover. Management by fear. Very bureaucratic, you can drown in processes and wait very long for approvals. Higher management takes credit for your hard work, and career opportunities are based on political moves rather than the work that has been achieved.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more, stop scaring employees with monthly purges. Clean up the C and D bands.

I worked at IATA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some great people to work with who are very knowledgeable and want to make a difference
    Travel opportunities
Good pay but don't expect to get a pay rise

    Cons

Incompetent senior management who are promoted to their positions because of who they know not what they can do.
Management by fear and blame culture
Senior management ride on the hard work of employees and take credit for everything that works well and the successes

    Advice to Management

With the New DG in place many hoped it would be the opportunity to clear out some of the senior management who bring nothing to the business and see it as a gravy train. Talk about the importance of Culture and ethics but pay scant regard to either......

I worked at IATA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A wonderful bunch of people to work with. A great staff association that organizes sociable after work activities. A pleasant international environment.

    Cons

Human Capital management. really kind of forgets they are managing just that, humans. Salary freeze eventually force good experienced people out the door for greener pastures.

    Advice to Management

Disappointing to see more of the same old by the new management. Was looking forward to seeing things turn around for IATA.
