I worked at IATA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Truly international organization with many talented people dedicated to increasing safety and efficiency for the aviation industry. Some really worthwhile projects provide opportunities to learn.

    Cons

Despite the best intentions of the current Director General to make changes, the organization is bureaucratic beyond belief. Filling in templates for head office consumption may give the impression of action but results are achieved in the field.

    Advice to Management

Heed the words of Laurence Peter (aka 'The Peter Principle') "In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence". There is a case study to be written here!

Review the staff development rules and activities, work on the leadership and attitude of upper management, develop clear processes and workflows on a common sence Basis.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Positive Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at IATA (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Salary, vacation time, pension, international colleagues and mindset, interaction with member airlines and industry partners

    Cons

Politics, highly incompetent people in high positions that manage to stay there, good people who deserve it rarely get promoted, it's all about who you know, corruption

    Advice to Management

The place is unfortunately beyond salvation...they have received all the advice they need, paid millions in survey to find out what the issues were, and never bothered doing anything with it. Listening to AD, Managers and band B's would have been useful, but limiting yourself to directors and above is brainless.
