Skip college and join the ibew. Minimal cost for school and great pay
Politics come in to play at times

Great training, great pay. Hard work sometimes, but rewarding.
Bad Politics, sometimes lack of work forces travel.

$31.55/hr is the rate of pay we take home. On top of it, the contractor pays for Healthcare, and contributes (at the time of review) nearly $7.50/hr to your pension. -and thats not all. Our total package would equate to around $50/hr if you had to source and pay our benefits ourselves. Dues are only ~$40/mo and a percentage of income -but we still make more per hour after dues than our competition. Overtime can never be mandatory and we typically have a 5-8, or 4-10 schedule.
If there isn't work in the local you may be on the out of work book for a while, however, your ticket can travel and so can you. -electricians will always be needed.
