I have been working at IBM full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Mentoring - Structure - Safety net - A good community - You are not left on your own - Good career opportunities - Great work-life balance

    Cons

    - Lowest common denominator mentality - they will not treasure and value the elite but rather focus on that everyone comes along - Non-competitive environment - Very pedagogical - In Europe, they have this 3 weeks induction which is very old-fashioned. - There tends to be a "oh I'm so busy mentality" amongst the graduates but very often it turns out that they are just trying to cover themselves up to hide... that they actually have very little responsibility. - If you are one of the graduates doing best you are not celebrated but rather you are just one of the others. There is i.e no possibility of negotiating salary when you are in the programme. You have just accepted that no matter how well you are doing, you are just one of the others.

    Advice to Management

    - Make difference between people because there are i.e. people have different levels of ambition. Celebrate them! - Let graduate managers solely focus on graduates and not on other projects. You call graduates leaders of tomorrow but it shows mixed signals that graduates can be forgotten in a busy everyday life by their graduate managers - I do understand that you have a difficult time attracting the best of the... best. The answer lies within the programme. - Let previous graduates run the programme together with seniors. It makes little sense that it is driven by managers who have left university more than two decades ago.

    Advice to Management
