I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

IBM is like any other job. What makes it different is that you can learn and advance your skills to be in the top 10 of the market. IBM has great opportunities as it's a around the world company. You can travel anywhere around the world & work at any IBM operations. You have to be a IBMer to know what it takes to thrive in this economy of challenges. Every challenge is a opportunity!

    Cons

The con's are based on people who do not apply themselves and want the easy way out.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what your doing! Stand strong & vast as you overcome challenges with a smile.

I worked at IBM full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Enjoyed coworkers, the software I worked with interesting, and benefits were pretty great. Would be a perfect job for me if it wasn't for inept management.

    Cons

Severe lack in effective management and leadership.

    Advice to Management

Work with your mid-level managers as they are lacking in the ability to effectively run huge teams. There needs to be a better distribution of work and more incentive.

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

You can learn many different types of skills, get on projects and experience what it's like to be a consultant. Get your hands wet kind of place.

    Cons

After almost 5 years there, you won't have opportunities to grow your career and advance levels, so you will need to move on. If you move to Baton Rouge, don't expect to make it a career move.

    Advice to Management

Be honest and open about the fact that skills are great, but it always comes down to demand. Demand will determine your path at the IBM Baton Rouge Center.

I have been working at IBM full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to learn new skills (on your own) and work with people in different parts of the world. Everyone in the office is super friendly. Working downtown is better than working anywhere else in Baton Rouge as far as I'm concerned.

    Cons

Not nearly enough work to go around. Felt like you are just placed on a project so they can collect a paycheck from a client. And people wait months to be placed on a project. When you're not on a project, it can get pretty boring unless your self-motivated to pick up new skills

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Possibility to travel 100%, although frowned upon.

    Cons

Communication comes with a heavy hand. Inexperienced or Demoted managers are responsible for people managing.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your people - more than a free, cold breakfast every quarter.

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Colleagues in the center are friendly and welcoming

    Cons

Where do I start? The people in "management" are completely incompetent. It is no structure here whatsoever. The lower level employees do all of the work while they reap the benefits. This isn't a real IBM center, its an affiliate of IBM but they lie on the application to draw good people in.

    Advice to Management

Work of setting policies that apply to everyone. Quit showing favoritism and be upfront about the positions you are hiring people for and I wont be such a huge turnover rate here..
