I worked at IBM (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some flexibility with normal work hours. Could come in up to 2 hours before or after 'normal' work hours and leave later or earlier, as appropriate. Sometimes could work from home as each person gets their own laptop. Can change jobs within the company after 2-3 years, if you want to learn different areas.

    Cons

My experience with 99.9% of managers was that if you got the job done, and someone else didn't, they wouldn't spend the time and work with the slacker to get him/her to do his/her job. They would just add it to you to do it. You can complain, but they don't care, because they know you'll get the work done, or you have failed to be a 'team player' - they LOVE that buzz word! But why would it take 3 people to replace you each time you left a job?

    Advice to Management

MANAGE your people instead of taking the easy way out, or at least recognize and reward your workers.

I have been working at IBM (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexibility is great. Numerous full-time work from home jobs. Lots of opportunity to move around the company and try new things.

    Cons

Compensation is terrible. Even the highest rated employees are not given yearly raises to out pace inflation. The company doesn't even offer complimentary water and coffee for employees.

    Advice to Management

Start paying employees fairly. Every smart, ambitious person ultimately leaves the company because of compensation. That just leaves a ton of under performing workers.

    Pros

excellent culture and benefits; interesting work.

    Cons

Anything would be nitpicking. Maybe a little less in meetings, but I'm scrounging here for something bad to say.

    Advice to Management

Elite management -- some managers are better than others, but all were the best I've experienced.

    Pros

Professional, great co-workers, bosses who care.

    Cons

If you do not like to dress professionally, this is not the job for you.

    Advice to Management

Keep running this company in the great way that you do.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

big company with different business units to build a varied experience. IBM still has the 'wow' factor, but this is an old dog having difficulty learning new tricks.

    Cons

IBM has lost its'way. Catch up strategy, no longer a leader. Management has lost sight of their key asset.... people.

    Advice to Management

    get past the stock price.
