I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people and many growth opportunities any years ago. Now it is just not the case. Poor company direction.

    Cons

The last 5 years produced SO much stress and inconsistent direction, Very disruptive and just not a pleasant environment. Poor training of new employees. There was so much change so often it was very hard to be productive. Low morale.

    Advice to Management

Be interested in employees careers. Have a good outlook and be encouraging to those who are producing. It use to be a great place to work- the best.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Worked with some great colleagues with an opportunity to lean from employer | clients alike to build skills and intellectual capital. Historically focused on being a loyal and integrity-driven company, though that has changed over time. Still would recommend accepting an offer of employment, but look at it as a way to get experience and move on - no longer a long-term career choice.

    Cons

Leadership invests too much into stock buy-backs and not enough into solutions. Truly a quarter-by-quarter decision company with great commercials but weak long-term strategy. Big move to bring in Millennials at the expense of seasoned Professionals; finding the latter lack the skills, motivation and loyalty to carry the company forward. Technology is not well-integrated, and Cloud offerings often lack functionality.

    Advice to Management

Don't believe current Leadership is looking for advice. Based on recent stock | financial performance the best bet may be for 2nd | 3rd Line Management who want to stay to hold out hope for next Leadership team. A frequent comment heard by current | former associates in the trenches is 'moving deck chairs on the Titanic'.

    Pros

Second most recognized name in the world. High profile name, been around for a long time. Cutting edge in technology.

    Cons

Too many layers of upper management who do not have any grasp of all the different business units. There strategy is one size fits all. Now they are messing around with our commissions.

    Advice to Management

Take the time and learn each business unit before implementing metrics. I don't mess around with our commission. Let the managers manage. PLEASE!!!

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are some great people at the company, great brand and rich heritage

    Cons

Becoming a very aggressive culture... lots of lay offs, targeting more senior and expensive personnel, lots of people being fired for not achieving outrageous and unrealistic sales targets

    Advice to Management

Focus more on the customer and less on internal calls; focus less on financially engineering revenue; start giving sales people targets they can actually achieve.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

IBM is run like separate businesses. We were allowed to continue our development after the acquisition.

    Cons

Very formal processes and procedures. The overhead that was added to the development cycle took additional months to get the product to the customer. The cycle of RIF's was not in proportion to the profitability of the product.

    Advice to Management

Reduction is Force actions will lead to the demise of the company.
