I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

As I progressed through life and my 30 years at IBM, my job interests changed. IBM has so many career opportunities and remains so current, that I was able to move from engineering to project management to consulting to sales and to human resources, each job building on the skills I developed from the previous role. And, I was able to do this within the same IBM family. Leadership development is also a great advantage, allowing me to take on exciting and challenging assignments to prepare for the next phase of my career. I made the right choice.

    Cons

There is too little time in life to be able to experience all the career opportunities that IBM has to offer.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on staying relevant and providing opportunities to those with the ambition to move the company in the right direction.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Investment IBM makes in New employees. I came straight out of undergrad and started working at IBM. I was trained for 6 months and paid very very well to learn. Not many companies invest in their employees the way IBM does

    Cons

Sometimes Slow to move, Hiring managers, HR, and First Line Managers are not always in sync. Very understandable for a company of this size

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing Ginni!

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you have your eye on a role or are passionate about something, you are the only thing standing between success or failure. People who create their own opportunities will thrive here. If you are not ready for that entrepreneurial atmosphere, this may not be your best option.

    Cons

There are many layers of redundant process supported by a back office function that needs its own transformation, but you can be a part of that change if you bring solutions to the problem into the process.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be transparent about the transformations and improvements being made because when people know change is coming, they either embrace it or run. Those who embrace change like I do will love where we are going and will ride out the storm.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

IBM is an excellent company to work for. They have a great support structure and very formal guidelines leading employees down their desired career path. Benefit package is outstanding.

    Cons

Because there are several hundred thousand employees, it is difficult (not impossible) to be recognized for outstanding effort. It is difficult to 'fast track' up the corporate ladder and depending on the band you are hired into, it may be difficult to receive annual increases.

    Advice to Management

    Flatten the organization structure.
