    I worked at IBM full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

    Most people on the front lines are great people trying to make a difference.

    Cons

    To managers, everyone is a widget, interchangeable and disposable. Layoff are very common. 1st line managers have no authority.

    Advice to Management

    Poor business results leading to layoffs are the outcome of ineffective executive management with extremely poor business acumen.

    I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

    Used to be a great company to work for with prestige and cared about technology leadership. Now it is just another service and software company. Work life balance can be managed well.

    Cons

    Company has relied on prestige too long and does not pay competitively or provide motivational compensation. No work performance you do can influence your bonus which is typically low. Execs still get well paid though.

    Advice to Management

    Empower the lower management. Give them decision making and budgetary authority back. Trust your employees to do the right thing, ie their job. Simplify processes to improve agility. Cut out many layers of hierarchy .

    Pros

    New business opportunities, There are still there skilled and motivated people to do the right things, to perform technical tasks in professional way. Work-life balance still no very high level.

    Cons

    Agile methodology is sometimes used as cover for panic and not prepared actions. Manager's scope of influence very limited due to new roles related to Workforce management.

    Think, Prepare, Rehearse

    Pros

    Huge field of knowledge and opportunities to learn. A lot of different areas of professional challenges. Although going down in the last 5-6 yrs very robust and has ammunition to stay on top

    Cons

    Heavy processes and hard to change. Finance can override everything even talent or common sense. Old school management can put the status quo in stone

    Value your talent over financial constraints

    flexible working hours great colleagues and bosses family friendly

    Cons

    big company with loads of rules and regulations hard to feel that you have real impact on the bigger picture constant cost cuts

    less administration would mean more time for effective work

    Great people, process oriented, friendly environment, solution oriented

    Cons

    Growth limited after a level, business streamlined hence monotonous, limited/reduced clientele

    Advice to Management

    A lot of good people moved out of IBM Daksh as they were unable to re-locate hence hindering career growth.
