    Positive Outlook

I have been working at IBM as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people. North Castle has a laid-back, fun atmosphere. You get a decent amount of exposure to (mid) management. Everyone is willing to talk to you and share knowledge.

    Cons

Really standard internship experience. Not many opportunities to differentiate yourself.

    Advice to Management

Make sure a department/manager needs an intern and actually try to test them.

I worked at IBM as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - learning resources, enrichment opportunities, and digital badge/credential programs
    - mobility, both in terms of geographical location, business function/role, department, and even industry
    - mentoring opportunities
    - volunteer opportunities
    - remote working opportunities
    - company sports teams/events
    - free coffee 2-4pm every day

    Cons

    - can be a little disorganized/slow to communicate due to size of company and other factors
    - open space areas can be loud/distracting
    - not enough breakout rooms for the amount of 10am and 2pm meetings that happen
    - there's a lot of things happening but sometimes you have to hunt to discover them, or be told by someone involved

I have been working at IBM as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

What I loved most about the company was the team dynamic. Everyone is working together for a common goal and there is a sense of unity. My peers were all willing to help and the work I was given as only an intern was valuable not only to myself but to the company. IBM is a great company to work for if one is looking to constantly learn and work through challenges, and provide value in a role

    Cons

My experience at IBM is great, I cannot think of any cons.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management would be to let those eager to learn sit in on meetings where one can learn even if it is just through osmosis.

Great experience - a lot of real work and opportunity.

    Cons

Systems and processes can be a bit dated

    Advice to Management

Much like the economy, infrastructure is key.

    Pros

Work from home; great 401k, access to offices all over the world.

    Cons

No support or training, especially important for a company acquired by IBM.

    Advice to Management

Train your employees on IBM systems/tools!

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Looks good on resume
    - Flexibility
    - Casual dress
    - Good benefits

    Cons

    - Pay is below market average
    - Workload is unevenly distributed among equally paid employees
    - Job advancement is mostly horizontal (Often takes multiple role changes before you see a pay increase)
    - High turnover (talented employees leave for better opportunities)

    Advice to Management

Stop paying employees equal salaries when their roles vary drastically based on job responsibilities, hours worked, and performance. Also, create a structure where promotions actually move employees up the ladder as opposed to horizontally

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Workplace flexibility, opportunity to work in several capacities

    Cons

Lack of communication about policy changes affecting employees, pay below market, constant restructuring to try to catch up to competitors or show change for change's sake, annual layoffs not due to performance but to make short-term cost/profit targets

    Advice to Management

Don't start forcing everyone to come into the office - please! Fund your salary plan based on bottom's up input. Embrace the reality that constant resource actions are not only killing morale as highly qualified and skilled people are forced to exit, but that the policy is unsustainable as well. Set challenging but fair targets - not ones that set up departments for failure.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Well-known company name, good analytics/Excel skills learned, good connections from working here

    Cons

Cyclical work, can be boring, not any clear path to promotions - they are chosen at random and could depend on whether or not someone above you retires or goes on maternity leave. Compensation is well under the market. Employees often sit "on the bench" for several months without an assignment before getting a role.
There is a program in place in the Rochester MN site where analysts get a higher band if they come from an East Coast school -- this is totally bogus because they are not any more qualified than the Midwest students, and they are all living in the same area so it is not cost of living adjustment. This program was started after I began, so I am simply speculating on how ridiculous it is - beware of this before starting! Overall very shady company.

    Advice to Management

Have a clear path to get promoted and be able to explain why one person gets an upgrade over another.
