I worked at IBM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    flexibility, life/work balance, recognized name

    Cons

lack of loyalty, short sighted, unethical

    Advice to Management

There are individuals that have skills to take posted new positions, yet IBM continues to lay these individuals off. When a CEO takes an enormous bonus while others are losing jobs - the perception if very poor. IBM is not the company that I joined and is not one where I would want to work in its current state. Evolvement is inevitable, but loyalty and ethics are what makes a company strong and a place people want to work and stay working with for years to come. Shame on you IBM!

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Friendly and smart colleagues at work

    Cons

Very little work life balance. VPs/ GMs expect work to be done at all times and during vacations. Most senior executives only care about their bonuses. Very little collaboration, innovation and trust for employees to be agile.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great exposure to new technologies (e.g. Watson, cloud, collaboration). Working on multiple accounts showed varying perspectives in corporate culture and technological maturity from Fortune 100 companies to small businesses. 100% remote work - very flexible work/life balance.

    Cons

Travel. Part of the job of an IBM architect is to sell IBM products and services, even if they are not the best fit. Funding for training and development is approved only if it is DIRECTLY related to supporting an account.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your people. Allow them to develop.

I have been working at IBM full-time

    Pros

You will address the issues confronting most businesses today. Good exposure to current and some cutting edge technologies. You will work with people from around the world. Good opportunity if you want to work from home or remotely.

    Cons

IBM makes it clear that your job as a US employee exists only until they figure out how to move it off shore. Stifling and frustrating internal buerocracy. Repeated rounds of layoffs have left morale low. Decision making has been moved too far up the chain of command and away from employees and even managers.

    Cons

Everything else. Constant fear of layoff. Poor management. Incredible soul crushing bureaucracy. Horrible review system. Every year, you loose a benefit. Bad work life balance. Poor customer satisfaction. Terrible morale. Lack of meaningful training. All in all... a miserable place to work.

    Advice to Management

Give up and sell the company while there is some value remaining. There is nothing you can do to fix IBM. It is too late.
