I worked at IBM full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Lot of resources, good people

    Cons

Tough to overstate the bureaucracy. As part of an acquired company you get thrown into the machine, where there is a big push for ELAs the first year and then you're left to die on the vine.

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Education is an amazing asset at IBM, be it leadership, technology, classroom or virtual learning. Teaming also was an asset of employees.

    Cons

Cost competition in market drove to dramatic cost reductions and pressure on travel expenses, so business focus shifted to cost focus

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at IBM full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Brand name, salary, benefits, some big clients

    Cons

The words that summarise IBM are: cliquey, not inspiring, not open minded, very mediocre middle management, not ahead of the curve although desperately trying. The company culture doesn't promote out of box thinking and it's not inclusive. You either like everyone else or you are out! Doesn't embrace change and value feedback.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees more, be open minded and offer people training and believe in their potential. Value the feedback your employees might give you and learn from it. Accept that everyone is different but that doesn't mean they are not experts in their field. Don't box everyone in and be judgmental. Be professional and prepared to answer difficult questions and face challenges. Stop acting like a headschool... mistress as intelligent people don't need micromanagment!

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Because it's a global brand, opportunities for job enrichment and learning are plenty. There is full support from management with regard to mobility of their staff.

    Cons

Processes are sometimes too stringent. There are often times no leeway for exceptions. Too heavy on desk top procedures which ironically is not what's followed on the ground.
