I have been working at IBM for more than a year

    Pros

Some managers will work to implement good agile and/or xp work flows Pay is decent (for a contractor without benefits) Not super stressful depending on your manager

    Cons

Corporate level puts pressure on managers to stifle agile flow and make XP nearly impossible to implement Contract to hire employees who have not left or been let go have not been hired on as full time employees after years of contract work Virtually no developer communication with end users of products High level management decisions lead to months of work on products that will never be sold. These kinds of decisions...

    Advice to Management

Ease up on lower level managers and encourage XP or at least quality agile practices Hire the long term contractors Find buyers for products in early stages before investing crazy amounts of money

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Training and only if you like video lectures.

    Cons

    - HR will tell you whatever you want to hear just to sign you in. - Pay range is a way below industry average for new and experienced hires. So if you have some skills go elsewhere. - Benefits are weak, just like the salary. - If you are a tech person or if you have coding skills this place is not for you. Majority of resources have Liberal Arts Degree and have nothing to do with tech. They are the reason why center...

    Advice to Management

You need a fresh blood with new vision to bring this place up. Otherwise it is just a matter of time before this center hits the ground, and it is on its way there. How long can a business survive on a "cheap resources for a premium price" model?

I worked at IBM for less than a year

    Pros

    The people are mostly nice.

    Cons

Poor planning. They laid off ALL the contractors and then had to rehire a lot of them. How many good people moved on in the process?

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at IBM full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Interesting job assignments with challenging tasks. The fellow employee are also super friendly and helpful.

    Cons

Being so new in this area there is lack in the access to equipment and personnel resource that you expect to find at a company of this size. There is no one to talk to about health and benefits locally and they lack a IT department to handle Ofiice materials. You have to provide your own equipment beyond the provided think pad laptop.

    Advice to Management

Build out the infrastructure for you employees before you grow. Its important that people are not left scratching their heads or being force to a vague website when they have questions about business and HR concerns. The facility manager should not be the only one with all the answers.
