I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Variety, multi-cultural work environment, workplace, generous salary

    Cons

Leadership and Strategy, Shiny Object Syndrome, inability to gain market adoption, quarterly results, lack of effective annual bonus plans, inability to transform/pivot to Cloud, Analytics and weakness in Marketing

    Advice to Management

Set core initiatives and stick with them. There is a point of over-demonstrating agility. Adequately staff and retain top talent, regardless of age.

    Pros

    Salary and benefits are top-notch

    Cons

Cater to executive demands rather than being client-first
Creativity is beaten out of you
New ideas are discouraged unless you can 100% guarantee success
Constant resource actions have created a culture of fear

    Advice to Management

Identify the good managers and do whatever you can to keep them
Start listening to client needs rather than executive wants
Focus on employee happiness and results will follow
    Start living IBM's values

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Ability to switch to different roles and completely different jobs while inside the same company. Access to leading thinkers and do-ers across a very VERY broad range of technical and business topics. Availability of training programs. Support for volunteer activities in the local community, as well as key programs like Corporate Services Corp where I spend a month with a team of 10 IBMers addressing IT challenges in central Africa. Respect that comes from association with the IBM brand and history. Relentless re-invention toward emerging and strategic areas of technology.

    Cons

Not as much flexibility for mid/low level managers as their would be in a small organization. Be aware that skills atrophy will result in minimal compensation increases and eventually needing to locate alternative roles or even company -- but this is reality of working in a tech business.
