I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Surrounded by smart people
Interesting work; no two days are ever the same

    Cons

Constant pressure - you have to maintain customer relationships, assist Sales, and keep up with complex technologies that change almost daily.

    Advice to Management

I know it's difficult with a large organization, but communication can always be improved. I've been at IBM three years, and on three separate occasions I've learned I've been doing identical work, towards the same goal, as another Tech Specialist

    Pros

The lower escelons are extremely knowledgable and great to work with.
Work at home is a big plus.

    Cons

    Constant layoffs
    No pay increases
No rewards for doing a great job
Long hours to simply keep your job
Upper management is held to a lower accountability than the other employees

    Advice to Management

Board of Directors.... either start holding upper management accountable, based on results, or replace them altogether. IBM HR is responding to Cons re: layoffs as holding employees accountable... this is a bunch of lies... Hardworking knowledgable people are being laid off simply to reduce costs.... while Ginni receives a $4 Million bonus for uncountable years of bad finances.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

High performance team. Highly skilled, highly effective. You can place a team of IBMers from anywhere in the world into a room. With in 5 minutes they will be up and running as a team. The culture to function as a team is highly developed organization wide.

    Cons

Three is significant economic uncertainty. You never know when the next shoe will drop and IBM has not had any good economic news in decades.

    Advice to Management

IBM has excellent talent. Focus on market needs and leverage your existing talent. They are up to the challenge to make IBM great.
