I worked at IBM full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Ability to use employer to extend current skills af self development

    Cons

PBC process is a nightmare. Nobody at an exec level ever gets a level 3. Only those at the customer end gets penalised. Managers have a PBC target to hand out PBC level 3

    Advice to Management

Be fair. Treat employees as people not numbet or assets. Remember without people you have no income.

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Your working for a large multi national, your work ethic is your best point, your drive can take you places within this company

    Cons

You are a number, and a cost against the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Actually stop flogging the dead horse that is the share price and start inovating and creating something unique rather than trying to buy a company to give you an advantage, there worlds apart from AWS to Soft Layer :(

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Great technologies based on historical successes. The IP is valuable and there is a re-invention process going on which is encouraging. The good is very good at times but the bad management remains deeply entrenched.

    Cons

Partners are just in it for themselves - they are constantly worried about their signings and will not hesitate twice in order to steal your clients, achievements, winnings and allocations - as soon as a win is announced they all come out of the woodwork praising each other having contributed nothing - the poor Consultants who worked long nights and weekends end up getting zero recognition in the books - and actually...

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Colleagues (whilst I still have them) are among the best I have ever worked with. All are loyal employees, who want to do the best for the customer

    Cons

CEO, VP's, Executive Managers, L2 Managers are roadblocks to allowing the staff to function on a day to day basis without the spectre of the axe over our heads. Job security is non existent, major (only) concern is employing the cheapest in the market they can, without any regard to ability. Standards of 'post sales technical support' are suffering hugely with IBM's rush to 'offshore'. Customer are beginning to see...

    Advice to Management

Stop offshoring before you break IBM IBM (and any other company) cannot exist for long if the focus is only about sales. Post sales support is crucial to retaining customers for new orders, and getting new customers on board ..... why can you not see that?

    IBM Response

Thank you for your honesty -- your experience certainly isn't what we strive for here. From an HR perspective, the biggest area of opportunity this year is around team and manager development and effectiveness. You raise some serious points -- if you're willing to dig in more on ...

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Scope of opportunities - you could end up anywhere doing anything. Brand reputation - IBM is the premier name in IT. Training and education - there will be a course for it in IBM

    Cons

Poor compensation. Salaries have not kept pace with the market. Don't expect a pay rise as your career progresses. Once your an IBM employee there are lots of career opportunities. But as your responsibilities increase and your value to the company improves, you don't get better compensation. Work/life balance van be poor - you will be expected to travel on a Sunday night and spend the week living in hotels.

    Advice to Management

Stop running this business into the ground in a quest to maximise your own bonuses! Relearn about "respect for the individual" and treat your staff right. Understand that your long term staff are what keeps the business afloat and treat them accordingly.
