I worked at IBM as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Loads of learning experience; Freedom to make decision and code; Free coffee, oatmeal and occasional celebrations; Fun outings;

    Cons

    No mentor/senior to help when stuck;

    Advice to Management

Assign knowledgeable mentor who can help interns when stuck.

I have been working at IBM as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The amount of resources that are available cannot be replicated at any other company. The team culture at IBM is unique and one of a kind.

    Cons

There are not really any downsides to working for IBM. There is a competitive nature here which shows top quality in the employees, and also helps motivate people to do their best.

    Advice to Management

I think it would be useful to have some more practice exercises in actual selling during Summit orientation, as well as more product knowledge classes and how to use all of the prospecting tools.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, many good people, not uncommon to find flexible managers, trying to change for the better.

    Cons

Often paralyzed by process, sketchy means of thinning their workforce, too many cross-functional groups in different locations.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Resources. Plenty of experienced people to help in areas you're not expert in. Any technical book you need is usually available online or shipped to you in printed form.
Flexibility. Ability to work from home when needed is very helpful.
    Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Company direction sometimes misses or doesn't apply to my business unit's product portfolio. Leaves us feeling left behind. Move the cloud dominates everything but not all products need to be in the cloud.

    Advice to Management

Promote employee movement. Allow employees, especially technical folks, to move around within the company. Encourage this.

I have been working at IBM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Big organization, lot of new and challenging technology to work on. Good support for self learning and grooming. Pretty good corporate tie ups and discounts. Flexible work hours

    Cons

Job security is always in question as all the time layoffs are going on in some area of organization. Cares more about wall street, then employees

    Advice to Management

Need more aggression and focus, keep employees motivated. Please don't take decision on short term goals and care more about employees

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good life-style balance, work at home flexibility, good salary

    Cons

    A bit process heavy
    No desktops for developers

    Advice to Management

Don't allow acquisitions to continue on their own for too long after acquisition. Better to learn the IBM process sooner than later.

  7. "Lack of tie between performance and compensation"

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Ability to affect at a world wide scale. Any product you develop will ship world wide on day one. IBM's sales force is excellent delivery mechanism

    Cons

The compensation is not directly tied to performance with respect to what is available on the open market. There is an assumption that it is a privilege to work at IBM and therefore you will never want to leave. Once a company is acquired by IBM they do little to retain talent after the first 2 years.
