I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities and certainly long term careers are possible

    Cons

As with any large corporation, lost in the crowd and red tape

I worked at IBM (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good Initial Pay, Great people to work with, Work from home is wonderful, but they are ending that.

    Cons

Zero pay raises (over 12 years). Long Hours, forced overtime (with no pay). Zero interest in the employee. Many promises, all later removed or made impossible to collect on.

    Advice to Management

Sadly no one but top level management can change this and they don't want to. Lower level managers have no power to change anything, or make any decisions concerning employees.

    Pros

There are lots of opportunities for advacement and to do different and challenging things. The benefits package is pretty good. The vacation package is reasonable and IBM is very good about extra time off for getting married and having children. There is also a lot of opportunity to work from home.

    Cons

IBM is very beauruacratic,, and it is getting worse. It becomes more difficult every day to get things done. The education opportunities used to be much better. They are very restrictive now about the cost of attending classes. When I began 8 years ago there was much focus on promoting educaction and having people develop new skills.

    Advice to Management

We need to reduce the beauracacy and get back to focus on the customer. There is all foucst on cost cuttting and not on taking care of what is important: employees and customers. IBM has become very myopic and puts great importance on short term results rather than looking long term.
