I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    The benefits, good compensation overall.

    Cons

Too many reorganizations. How many times per year can a company change directions? It seemed that there were large layoffs, almost every quarter.

    Advice to Management

You can't solve every problem with technology. As consultants, we cannot lose sight of the business problems we're trying to solve for customers, as they are not always solved by throwing more technology at it. Instead of looking at it like, "I have this software, how can I sell it to ABC company?", look at it this way, "How can I help ABC company, and what would be the solution to their problems?"

    Cons

Costs like health care and commuting keep rising, with no pay raises to even keep things even. not many other cons

I worked at IBM as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

none that I can think of.

    Cons

The company is a good ole boy network. Ginni Rometty does nothing to advance the cause of women. Forget ever breaking into the iron clad sexist environment. They let some women and minorities work there but only if you fit their idea of what a woman and a minority is, Its a depressing company culture that complains that they haven't earned any revenue in 22 quarters but maybe they should look at the company culture and see why that is. Only white men need apply. They have a presence in India and other countries because its cheaper to hire abroad.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and smell the coffee. The reason you are losing is because you are bureaucratic, too many project managers, too many people in charge but if it takes 4 months to order a cisco router no wonder customers walk away.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company treats people fairly and provides tremendous opportunities for learning new things. Chance to work with innovative technologies at the forefront of industry. Solutions team support very strong.

    Cons

During the time I was at the company, I had five bosses. Company was too focused on short term financial results. There is a lot of internal process that gets in the way.
