I have been working at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The IBM Rochester site has superb management who have a lot of trust in employees.

    Cons

Bonuses and wages do not compete well with nearby competitors such as those in Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a great crowd with many young, enthusiastic, people. Management will always make time for your request and concerns which makes you feel valuable.

    Cons

Busy around quarter close, and then can be extremely slow between then. This job can sometimes be daunting.

I have been working at IBM as an intern

    Pros

The work and home life balance is great. Managers are very trusting and flexible with how you get your work done as long as you get it done and aren't slacking off.

    Cons

With such a large company it is hard to understand everything that they do and what their intentions are in the future for each department of the company.

    Advice to Management

With such a large company it would be nice to have a better understanding of long term intentions and allow interns to experience different departments to see what might fit them best as well as provide opportunities in different departments.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Professional work environment. Great clients. Good travel opportunities. Longer timeline projects. Varied and versatile experience. Effective project management. Enjoyed the team work

    Cons

Less project opportunities. Cumbersome procedures. Lots of paper work to get promoted. Every week travel from Monday to Thursday makes the work life balance difficult

    Advice to Management

    Get more projects

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Easy to do lateral moves within the company
    - Very accepting of trying new things
    - Pushed for continued education/learning opportunities

    Cons

    - The good old boy network is strong
    - Management often does not know what the job entails
    - Very male centered

    Advice to Management

Lose the idea of you can be a manager in this division then you can be a manager anywhere. It's an injustice to the people they manage as they have no clue what the work really involves or needs.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of opportunities at IBM, and they have a great training program for entry-level financial analysts to learn the ropes and cut their teeth. Also, most job roles in finance offer a lot of flexibility.

    Cons

Advancement can be slow and role dependent. If you get the wrong role initially (and you won't know at first), you can get pigeon holed into waiting longer than your peers for promotions.
