I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Flexible working
    People
    Opportunities
No limits to the roles you can perform just don't expect the pay to match.

    Cons

Pay not in line with market . Pay rises low and only the top people get them.
The PBC appraisal system is a nightmare. Distribution is dictated even though HR say it isn't.
People can achieve their goals but as rating is relative to peers you could still end up with a poor rating. The bonus for top rated people still poor which makes people think it isn't worth trying!

    Advice to Management

    Scrap the PBC system!
    Invest in your people!

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

    Exposure to new products/Tech
If in London then travel is not an issue and this is where it is all happening.
CEO has the right gravitas and focus in the right areas

    Cons

Morale is poor with constant focus on cost reduction
Loss of very good people and experience
Feeling of being a number and not a person and career lifespan nor salary not good out of London
    Diminishing network of onshore expertise
    Online training only
Severe distrust of management amongst employees after constant series of redundancies

    Advice to Management

Stem the exodus of good people and earn their trust again.

    Pros

Colleagues, are overall great to work with, appreciative of yoour own struggles - usually because they have the same.

    Cons

    Management, management, management.
Lack of rewards, recognition and the reflection in pay awards given the financial gains the company has been making for a good number of years

    Advice to Management

Leave and find another job, or wake up to the undignified way you treat staff

    Pros

There are lots of opportunities to further your skills and knowledge if you are willing to work the extra time and go the extra mile. Nothing is for free you have to push and fight for everything but if your lucky its a fantastic opportunity.

    Cons

Bad compensation, lack of any recognition when you do go the extra mile apart from thanks from the customer and colleges!

    Advice to Management

Stop loosing the good people by taring everyone with the same brush. There needs to be flexibility to see those who can stand out and should be encouraged not lost to competitors.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

The IBM name looks good on your CV
Great bunch of collleagues, until they are forced out by management due to cost of employing UK workers

    Cons

15% of people forced to fail their PBC
    Final Salary Pension being decimated
    No pay rises
    Offshoring, forces UK employees out

    Advice to Management

Start treating staff as human beings rather than tools
Abolish compulsory 15% PBC C grades
Actually give pay raises and decent bonuses
