I have been working at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Collaborative tools are a plus. Everybody knows who I work for and I don't have to explain my who my employer is past three letters, IBM. Vacation days are nice, Sick time policy nice, Healthy lifestyle perks such as steps challenges, logging workouts and monetary rewards for keeping an active lifestyle are nice. HSA plan so far has been a positive.

    Cons

Salary increases are the most minimal, seems they can barely keep up with inflation. Bonuses for anyone in IT seem to be non -existent, banding and layering has diminished my direct reports so now I'm no longer a manager thanks to changes that occurred after acquisition. Travel and hiring bans have been in effect ever since our acquisition took place, nobody knows what the future holds for our team.

    Advice to Management

How about a Christmas bonus? Even if small? So many large corporations and tech companies seem to hand out cash , stock, bonuses, raises, promotions so much more often than I have seen here. Not to mention the recent tax overhaul and how companies are giving back to employees, so far, nothing.

    Pros

Lots of growth career opportunity and experience; smart, talented diverse workforce that enjoys working collaboratively. Flexible work environments and hours.

    Cons

lots of management focused on business success and with little to no focus on employee success.

    Advice to Management

When an employee works 50+ hours a week for 25 years always exceeding expectation and you eliminate their position due to changing business direction, have the decency to celebrate their contributions, say "thank you" and wish them the best of luck.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good co-workers, decent pay, good schedule.

    Cons

TERRIBLE upper management, AWFUL corporate vision, constant lay off, furloughs, and pay cuts.
IBM's corporate vision to make a profit has been to abandon what it was good at and jump on the trendy Cloud Computing model (5years after Amazon, Google, and Microsoft). IBM is failing so the answer to turn a profit over the last 5 years has been to slash qualified personnel stateside and hire droves of unskilled unqualified workers overseas. Layoffs, pay cuts, and terminating employees close to retirement.

    Advice to Management

You are burning your own house down and calling it innovative. INVEST IN YOUR STATESIDE WORKFORCE! Cut WAY, WAY back on your unskilled cheap overseas labor. Finally forget the cloud. Everyone else beat you to it years ago. You are a dinosaur and if you don't want to become extinct you better come up with something truly innovative and quick.

    Pros

The technical knowledge and people are the best.

    Cons

    Too many levels of management

    Advice to Management

Watch how you let that legacy skillset go. There are still systems and processes in place that can't easily be unwoven and you are going to need SME to transition that.
