    Advice to Management

Stop laying off the people doing the work and start looking at senior management for reasons for poor company performance.

I have been working at IBM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Brand name and prestige. In 3 months working for IBM, they have invested in my education by over $25,000.00.

    Cons

IBM is quite a large company and you can get lost in it. Keep a positive attitude and make your Eminence known.

    Advice to Management

Need to revamp New Employee Orientation. 1 day of orientation for a company this size is not enough.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

By definition, incumbent leads clients and teams in innovative and trans-formative solutions that align the business to opportunities and reduce overall IT spend

    Cons

Delivery and Executive management often view you as the 'one stop shop' for all issues and problems.

    Advice to Management

Focus on improved delivery process and skills within delivery.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

IBM has a highly skilled workforce with good collaborative tools to enable cross teaming to get the job done. It also has a culture of continuous learning to keep increasing skill sets to retool employees for an evolving technical landscape.

    Cons

Sustained disappointing business results has meant a lack of opportunity for career and salary progression.

    Advice to Management

IBM Continues to reduce staff without proportionately reducing the amount of output expected from the staff. This results in overall reduction in the quality of output.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Still (sort-of) looks good on a résumé.

    - Honestly can't think of anything else to put in this category, but there's a 20-word minimum.

    Cons

    - Long hours, odd hours, constantly on-call. Almost NO work-life balance.
    - Very little investment into individual growth.
    - Weak benefits and pay in comparison to industry.
    - Near constant layoffs (just google it).
    - Employee contributions are not valued.

    Advice to Management

Kick Ginny Rometty out. 20 Quarters of non-performance. 20! Entire divisions getting the axe after 20 quarters of non-performance, but this woman doesn't deserve the boot!? Employee morale was in the toilet when I left, and it's due to the lying, manipulative, back-stabbing upper management. If you can't be honest and forthright with your employees, your customers should think HARD on your ability to be honest with them.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Intellectual demanding workplace; very innovative- technology wise leading edge Company; very trustworthy colleagues; never met a person at IBM who is not really smart.

    Cons

IBM seemed to have lost its way in terms of leadership. Constant reorganization and hiring and firing of people has a very negative impact on business development activities especially on new logos.

    Advice to Management

Transformation starts from the Top down - instead of playing musical chairs I would advise to change out the complete Tier 1 client facing leadership.

    Pros

The people are great to work with and absolutely are passionate about making a positive difference

    Cons

Too many demands and not enough trained resources and/or available resources to absorb additional workload demands.

    Advice to Management

Would like to have seen more of the Management Team embracing the issues and recommendations from those in the trenches on issues affecting IBM's performance. Your people are your most significant investment.
