I worked at IBM full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent compensation, benefits, training, time-off and great work-life balance.

    Cons

The company is in flux, constantly changing and shifting the organizations and solutions based on market trends. Company values no longer match their business trend. Frequent layoffs lead to job insecurity, negatively impacting employee morale and loyalty to the company.

    Advice to Management

Limit layoffs to poor performing individuals, not high-performing individuals who make the company millions in new revenue each year and those with exceeds expectations on their yearly reviews. Eliminate redundancy in administrative systems, tools, documentation sites, collab tools, etc leveraging only the BEST solutions.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Still some flexibility, depending on your manager, a CEO who represents the company well. IBM values ethical behavior. I have never felt the victim of any kind of discrimination and they are always forward-thinking in terms of doing the right thing.

    Cons

Constant layoffs, poor compensation, and no employee education makes this a challenging place to work, these days. Additionally, they are forcing many remote employees to relocate and work in an office.

    Advice to Management

Update your non-sales policies and invest in educating the workforce.

    Pros

Great people, amazing commitment to research. Trying to be relevant in an ever changing industry. Benefits are pretty good. That's about all I can say that is good.

    Cons

Constant org changes, no time to see if they have made any difference. No commitment to the employees that have been so loyal to the company over the years.

    Advice to Management

Give your origination changes a chance to work before changing again.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

IBM is the most innovative company on the planet. You are surrounded by brilliant people and resources. Anything can be accomplished due to what seems like unlimited capabilities and potential. For the best opportunity, you must work in a Strategic Growth Unit, (Watson, Analytics, SW, Cloud, Security)

    Cons

Unfortunately, IBM is going through another (and continuous) transformation. They are moving from a $100 Billion IT Product and Services Company to a much smaller higher value company focusing on Enterprise Innovation. There is much people damage left in the wake. They operate with a "king has no clothes" and bully mentality. Lot's of "yes" men in the management change and very few with the guts to "do what is right" for its people and clients. From this perspective, IBM is broken.

    Advice to Management

Go back to what made IBM Great 1) Customer Satisfaction, 2) Product Excellence 3) Respect for the Individual. When you have motivated and loyal employees, you will return to greatness. Otherwise, you will continue to struggle. It might be too late. Although your vision is sound, your execution is very poor.
