    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at IBM for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Great Technologies, Vision and Directive

    Cons

Incoherent game plan, dis-connected technologies, complex implementation processes, costly to work with, too slow for an agile customer to adopt.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at IBM for less than a year

    Pros

Easy going work environment with great campus and matching canteen facilities. Awesome for newcomers and folks just out of college.

    Cons

Policies related to promotion and other incentives not very clear. Growth path also not clear. Leadership not able to inspire confidence among the general staff members.

    Advice to Management

Transparency in policy matters related to promotions and incentives can really boos employee confidence in the management

I worked at IBM full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are some very smart well meaning individuals who work at IBM who do great things in terms of innovation, client service, and delivery.

    Cons

Organization has a culture that is too silo'd and too bureaucratic to allow results that are greater than the sum of the parts.

    Advice to Management

Eliminate the unrealistic utilization targets, unrealistic financial targets, and change the half empty culture that penalizes everyone one one portion of an organization fails to meet their unrealistic targets, and return to the days when staff valued and seen in terms other than $'s.

    I worked at IBM

    Pros

Decent compensation. But watch-out for those who become employees in an acquisition! They do not grand-father tenure from previous company in compensation calculations when they lay you off. Also, they are committed to drawing down their US staff as much as possible.

    Cons

Our small customer-focused software company was acquired by IBM SWG in 2009. They laid-off 25% of us within first year. They would not allow us to go to training for other software tools. Their bureaucracy and "blue washing" is ridiculously cumbersome. They were only interested in Sales numbers and only gave lip service to customers.

    Advice to Management

Mgmt is secretive and unresponsive. When their Exec. VP Robert Mofatt was indicted for insider trading, no one said anything. I asked mgmt once and they pretended it never happened. Their only interest was their careers and not their employees.

    I worked at IBM

    Pros

A good place to consider if you want to work for a research based organization in a corporate setting

    Cons

Not at all professional in dealing with resource cutting. They would layoff workforce under the cover. Continue following what IBM stands for - I 'Been Moved - they may give you an option to relocate to Poland or else lose your job in USA

    Advice to Management

All employees understand the need for restructuring and accept it, but would appreciate if layoffs are not executed in a clendestine fashion - esp folks who have given 12 years of their loyalty to a company.
