I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

IBM is a company always l had innovation as a strength.

    Cons

IBM is a company always l had innovation as a strength. Unfortunately in the last several years, they have created a commission environment that isn’t transparent. This has forced reps to question where they stand against their quota or pushed many reps to look elsewhere. They have let go of so many reps and not enough of middle management.

    Advice to Management

You need to rethink the compensation of sales reps. You are replacing experienced sales reps with new hires out of college that don’t have the sales experience and then expecting them to succeed.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Was a great place to work with challenging projects when the technical and management start align.
Smart colleagues you can learn from.
Work location flexibility (can work from home)

    Cons

Company going through major restructuring of business. New sales pipeline is completely broken currently.
The management layer is disconnected with the technical layer currently (2017-2018).
Project delivery and technical resource management communication is broken. There is no objective way to forecast work and ensure that the right person is doing the right job.

    Advice to Management

institute a culture of end-to-end accountability. Include objective measures for performance along with utilization. Have a technical roadmap for the delivery workforce that is known and available to resources.

I have been working at IBM full-time

    Pros

They pay ok and do have some nice people

    Cons

Selling software that does not work to Federal. Inexperienced management, clickish, only interested in hiring 20 something’s who will work 44-50 hr weeks. Not interested in solving problems just interested in billing gov max hours.

    Advice to Management

Be careful of lawsuits, ageism and likeability over expertise is very dangerous.

    Pros

Good benefits. Cutting edge technology. Fast paced.

    Cons

90% of the people are great. The other 10% are corporate vipers. Not a healthy environment. Not your fathers/mothers IBM of 30 years back. The management can be brutal. Unrealistic expectation.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like you would like to be treated.
