I worked at IBM as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Great research areas and ideas ongoing in Watson.

    Cons

This is a large corporation, so there are some challenges that may come naturally with such large organizations.

I have been working at IBM as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Very friendly people, opportunity to work with other teams, plenty of responsibility and autonomy.

I really enjoy working in my team.

    Cons

no free tea or coffee, very hard to get budget for events, the intern salary isn't very good. Even at orientation sessions for new interns they don't provide lunch.

    Advice to Management

treat your employees like people, not just resources. Good staff deserve to be rewarded, and a lot of people are unhappy because they don't feel like their being invested in.

I have been working at IBM as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Large pool of experts in many areas to learn from.
Even as an intern you can get the opportunity to contribute to big projects.
Salary is great for an internship
I feel like a part of the team, never "just the intern".

    Cons

As with any large company, there are layers of bureaucracy and just bad habits that need navigating or ... pointing out and encouraging change and yes even interns can have an impact here.

Related, because there are so many middle management positions or sometimes different branches, the messages from the top sometimes conflict and vision can be muddied.

If you are unlucky you may get stuck on a project where you may be doing repetitive stuff on legacy systems. I have heard other interns complain the did not feel they learned much or grow as a software developer.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to make the company feel smaller. The move towards a more agile culture is great and a journey I am proud to be a part of. This requires more clear and concise direction from all management layers.
