I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    * Great professional people to work with
    * Many tools and resources available
    * Big projects with wonderful contributions to society
    * Lots of volunteer opportunities
    * Depending on management, might be supported to grow career
    * Ability to submit patent ideas
    * Lots of inside educational opportunities

    Cons

    * Cost cutting has affected travel and education to cut them to a minimum
    * Confusion over moving folks to remote work at home and now stressing co-location
    * Employees pushed to be working all the time and late hours, so not a lot of time or desire for people to socialize or for education opportunities
    * Many are living in a state of wondering when they may be hit by a layoff
    * Layoffs seem to be random

    Advice to Management

start to care about employees again

I worked at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Get to play with some really cool technology
    - Work life balance better than anywhere I've ever worked
    - Management is pretty hands off which gives you a lot of head room to do crazy innovative stuff
    - IBM as the first name on your resume opens a lot of doors
    - Some travel opportunities

    Cons

    - compensation is not competitive
    - offices are kind of old
    - hard to move teams or locations

    Advice to Management

I love IBM, I'd still be working there if I hadn't found a more competitive salary in a more interesting place to live and work in. Raise the hiring bar and pay people more. Expand into more competitive markets in SFO and NYC.

I have been working at IBM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have been working for the Big Blue for 6 months. This period gave me plenty of opportunities to see how it looks from within. This is a truly fantastic company to work for! Tons of opportunities for developing your career and also your skills and knowledge base. People work very well together, in peace and harmony, and they are very helpful if you need advice or help. Your work is appreciated. This company is a bliss compared to all those I worked for in the past 20 years.

    Cons

    I have not seen any.

    Keep going! Great job!
