I have been working at IBM full-time

    Pros

Proven leader and continues to innovate. Family friendly. Flexible working hours which is critical for the real world of two working parents.

    Cons

The size of the company can be both a strength and a weakness. Sometimes there are too many cooks in the kitchen and it takes longer than it should to act.

    Advice to Management

Keep listening to employees and making adjustments where needed. The latest increase in Parental Leave is a great example of IBM focusing on their employees!

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

IBMers hands down. I have always been amazed to find such bright, intelligent and resourceful people to work with.
There were a lot of eyes on IBM having had a good quarter and the first big news that came out was regarding the expanded parental leave program. In the past I would have expected IBM to reinvest in research or growing a business line; this time however the first move was on how IBM reinvested in the workforce, it's employees.
IBM recently expanded its parental leave program to 12 weeks, allowing parents (both moms and dads) to care for and share in the joys of the early childhood days.
IBM also has a lot of diversity in job types that you can choose from and learn about a different part of the business allowing you the career options to innovate and learn; take it where you'd like to.

    Cons

Client facing roles involve a lot of travel and sometimes feel isolated from the DNA of IBM, you have to make a conscious choice to stay connected and networked within IBM. I learnt about the expanded parental leave program through a blog post; not top down from management.

    Advice to Management

Be better advocates for your employees and build stronger teams.

    Pros

Company treats people fairly and provides tremendous opportunities for learning new things. Chance to work with innovative technologies at the forefront of industry. Solutions team support very strong.

    Cons

During the time I was at the company, I had five bosses. Company was too focused on short term financial results. There is a lot of internal process that gets in the way.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

IBM has some smart people and good opportunities that will bolster your resume. Good projects are extremely interesting and will have you at the forefront of innovation.

    Cons

Life is extremely variable. It is tough to schedule things, know what your hours will be like, or even know what projects will be available and what skills you will build down the road. Oftentimes, your experience depends on luck. Unfortunately, many people are caught in bad situations and find it very difficult to get out.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to nurture talent better

    * The company naturally respect employees' work life balance.

    Cons

    * It's always challenging and competitive to work with smartest people in the industry.
