I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good work environment, good educational opportunities and rewarding. I would say it is the best job I have had thus far and was sorry to leave.

    Cons

Every changing goal, conditional modifiers for some application and only limited authority to do the job. Getting full time employment will be difficult due to that many support positons are being moved overseas.

    Advice to Management

Always consider the quality of your employees or the number of employees. I believe that moving job off-shore while saving money costs the company in the long run.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work family life balance. Good medical benefits

    Cons

You can get layed-off at any time. No job security.

    Advice to Management

Keep those employed with the company until they reach retirement. Give them the option to leave or stay.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a paycheck until something else pops up. Nothing more.

    Cons

There is no stability at all. Jobs are slowly sent to India or one of the regional centers created in the States. Layoffs are all too common. There is zero training provided and management has no idea what their poeple do because everybody is remote.

    Advice to Management

Middle management needs to value their employees more. Sr Management is a lost cause. Totally clueless. SDM's that think they know what they are doing but have no idea how to manage an account.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

IBM hires great people - positive, hard-working and bright so the people, and teams are great
IBM supports and even promotes tele-commuting or working from home which allows for work/life balance
IBM offers lots of training and education and a chance to move to many areas of the business
IBM hires good management who have good people-management skills
IBM trusts its employees and has good policies in place between management and staff
    IBM values are excellent

    Cons

The company has changed over the years. It used to reward its employees with trips, motivational awards, company outings etc. This has all but stopped completely. Quotas were challenging but attainable, allowing one to earn a really good income. That has all but stopped and the environment as of late has been driving employees to meet unrealistic quotas. Lots of pressure on employees. Junior employees are micro-managed with all actions tracked. Top-performing senior sales people are not adequately paid. Job satisfaction has dropped among my colleagues. The famous IBM culture is not the same as before, sadly.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Steady work; good teamwork, a paycheck.

    Cons

No advancement opportunities, and no pay for shift differential, working 12 hours shifts.
    No training.

    Advice to Management

Check in with your people, learn what it is they actually do before you roll out procedure changes which are destined to fail.
