I worked at IBM (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Scope and diversity of client base; opportunity to work with best-in-class technologies; many outstanding colleagues; name is instantly known everywhere

    Cons

Conformance to narrow profile for position valued above versatility and flexibility; little opportunity to advance outside of narrow tracks; earnings per share and market valuation drive managment decisionmaking

    Advice to Management

Evaluate and reward people based on actual performance and accomplishments rather than age, salary band, and last quarter's financial performance.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people are great, and you can (for now) work at home for the most part, depending on your job. Some of the products are good.

    Cons

Company is lost. The CEO is slowly tearing apart everything that was once good about this company. Doesn't matter how hard you work, or how much you produce, you can be fired (RA'd in the internal parlance) any time, with no cause given. Zero loyalty to employees. Only care about stock price (see how well that's working out). Allegedly trying to become more nimble (Agile), but too many entrenched executives protecting their turf to allow that to happen.

    Advice to Management

You have created a paralytic atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. You talk about this amazing turnaround that few, if any can see. Dump the CEO and return to the idea of Respect for the Individual.
