I worked at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The experience you gain at a company like IBM is incomparable. The sheer size of the company allows your career to grow in a number of directions. Mentors are easily accessible and resources are at your fingertips.

    Cons

I mentioned that the size of the company as a pro, but it is also a con. Due to the size, the hierarchy and management matrix is unreal. Every level of management is scrutinizing every last deal and pushing for weekly numbers and goal attainment now.

    Advice to Management

Let the field reps run their business. Too much time is spend on reporting to management and not enough time selling.

    Pros

A global company with the ability to work with cultures and people around the world

    Cons

heavy bureaucracy and politics, Limited diection from senior management on direction other than just 90 days

    Advice to Management

Be open and communicate challenges with the entire team/organization. Changes can't be made if things aren't openly addressed.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Multinational company, feels pretty safe

    Cons

No real benefits, no free drinks no sub food, no poor salary compared to overall market, not hired for 2 years meaning that staff who are left have to do more. Only benefits we have is pension and sickdays basically. Management seem to think that people will stay even if we get less paid and no benefits just because of the brand but it is time to wake up! Also they are cutting on everything now, business travel, education, all is about saving. Somewhat outdated practices as well and need to reinvent themselves as a brand more.

    Advice to Management

    Appreciate your members of staff.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of interesting opportunities, areas for growth, and career advancement.

    Cons

Mired in mediocrity, poor judgement at the middle-management and lower management levels, people who are too worried about the politics rather than having a client focus. What used to be a great benefits plan is now all but gone, as is the promise of anything around a 'work life balance'.

    Advice to Management

Empower your employees. Remove the red tape. Create a customer-centric work model and don't hesitate to pay people what they are actually worth.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I spent 10 years on and off working at IBM. Great people at the time, a really family atmosphere despite the size.

    Cons

Most people look about 10 years old, who lack experience and promoted beyond capabilities. IBM lacks passion and soul.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good work security and culture

    Cons

too many processes and commission structure is a bit misleading. Processes can lead to bad customer experience.
Taking a day in some depts is a bad idea. You get phone calls on day off and come back to a host or urgent requests that take about 2 weeks to turn around.

    Advice to Management

Shorten the processes and become more agile like our competitors
