I worked at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Professional education opportunities and ability to expand your knowledge by working with some very smart people was great.

    Cons

IBM is now inivating ways to bring employee moral to a new low in order to refocus the blame of a terrible CEO who should have been fired a few years ago. Company is now about saving executive careers rather than enhancing the careers of the real workers.

    Advice to Management

Fire the CEO and replace the Board who supports her.

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The business appears to be headed in the right strategic direction. Watson is a key component. Telecommuting is still permitted in some areas but it appears that may be going away.

    Cons

No work/life balance. High stress. Frantic pace. Insufficient staffing across all teams. Poor business decisions at the VP levels. Employees are not empowered to effect change. Benefits are not competitive.

    Advice to Management

People are your most valuable asset and sustained lack of work/life balance carries a heavy toll. Ask your people about the problems with the business, take care of the systemic issues and empower them to make change. Your business will run more efficiently without burning your people out.

Many great people at lower levels who keep the corporation running. Excellent training opportunities. Excellent tools and resources to do the job.

      Cons

No respect for the individual, CEO is only concerned with her own compensation. Management has no backbone. Layoffs of over 200,000 employees since 1991.
