I have been working at IBM (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits; working with other talented peers; good work-life balance typically. Lots of flexibility to set your own schedule and appointments.

    Cons

Frequent re-organizations are disruptive, particularly in sales which is relationship-based. Too many products in each sales portfolio. Not enough cultural emphasis on prospecting, especially if business development needs to be a priority for overall growth.

    Advice to Management

Take feedback regarding territories from the reps who are interacting with the accounts on a regular basis. Too many weak accounts on Enterprise lists.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility to telecommute, good mentors if you seek them out, career progression possible. I met some fantastic people and the best part about the job are the coworkers I work with... outside of them honestly it's an old boys club with a bunch of old white men running the show.

    Cons

The company is trying to do too much and there is no clear vision. Layoffs are happening all the time because the company is not doing well - letting experienced people go in favor of cheaper younger people. You are (in sales) expected to have no outside life.. Culture is money and revenue over everything including client satisfaction. So much bureaucracy that you're going through at least 16 different people to get anything done. And honestly, there are some questionable business practices going on that in not comfortable with.

    Advice to Management

    ... needs a total reorganization.

I have been working at IBM (More than 3 years)

    Pros

IBM is a very empowering company even down to the Sales rep level. They allow you a lot of freedom and opportunity for career advancement and training for a big company. There are an incredible amount of very smart collaborative professionals.

    Cons

IBM is a political company that is very complicated internally and is overly thick in management layers. I have been at the company for several years and many inept employees seem to avoid layoffs and continue to drag the quality of the company down.

    Advice to Management

In 2016 I ask a simple question to Senior MGT - If REVENUE growth is our #1 problem (and has been for over 4 yrs) why are you laying off sales reps and keeping non-client facing managers and various "Sales Leader" roles. Also for sales roles - STOP constantly changing territories and accounts so often - the company loses $$$$, upsets customers and employees.
