I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There was a lot of opportunity for learning new technologies in my group plus the added resources provided by IBM.

    Cons

IBM bought our small startup and then dismembered it. The continual layoffs over 10 years was a moral killer.

    Advice to Management

Quit moving jobs offshore. I supposed that helped moral of offshore employees but not employees located in US.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Large pool of employees, so you can find some very intelligent people

    Cons

Most of the creative and intelligent folks left years ago when job insecurity became the norm. Company is no longer a leader in innovation, benefits nor work-life balance. Expect to work weekends, holidays, and sometimes 24+ hr shifts without additional compensation. Promotions and raises are mostly a thing of the past. Best description of the work environment is "toxic"

    Advice to Management

Stop and look around -- to be creative and innovative, people need reasonable work hours, benefits, and positive compensation for their efforts. Job security is important to most - and most intelligent people can tell the difference between a system that rates their performance and one that is merely a quota system to enable the company to cut headcount. Employees need training options -- including time in which to consume the training.

    Pros

Great people! The atmosphere is great here. Everyone is easy to get along with, willing to help you out, and work schedule is very flexible

    Cons

Lack of growth opportunities. Numerous employees have moved to other companies because IBM lacks job openings. Exposure to various technologies is also limited. Only given 4 vacation days a year. Can take more but with no pay.

    Advice to Management

More appreciation should be shown to employees for doing a good job and working hard. Jobs seems to be valued very minimally by upper management
