I worked at IBM full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

IBM training facilities in Armonk are wonderful. I always enjoyed going there for learning opportunities.

    Cons

Aggressive sales orientation and focus on giant deals rather than building out a sustainable product strategy that could be scaled and leveraged.

    Advice to Management

Take a hard look at your approach and incentives. People are incentivized to do the wrong things for the company, and you are seeing that in your results. Watson is an amazing product line. Find a way to use it to sustainably make revenue.

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

IBM seems to have a good strategy of cloud and cognitive. IBM is trying to turn the ship and re-invent itself. The people are always what makes IBM special.

    Cons

Company has been financially engineered for over a decade without real invention and almost missed the cloud wave. IBM cares more about its senior executives than middle management and sellers which they are losing. IBM has lost its hardware and software business but still has a vibrant service business.

    Advice to Management

Change out the old IBM senior leadership and clear the way for the new IBM leadership and middle management to run the company.

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Great Benefits, good work life balance

    Cons

Depends on your manager and your relationship with him or her as to your career path and success. If you are 50 or over, be watching for the ax to fall. That's just the facts.

    Advice to Management

Some of us "vets" could be "re-trained" to what IBM is looking for. IBM used to be a good if not great place to work.

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

    Diverse team with people from all over the world who are strong contributors in their field; Lots of opportunities to get involved;

    Cons

Pay is not as competitive as it used to be; Outsourcing many of the roles; Work demand is high (often work more than 50-60 hours a week)

    Advice to Management

Instead of laying off good resources, try to find new opportunities for them so they can continue contributing to IBM. HIre more people to eliminate the high stress and work demand (more than 60 hours is a bit extreme).

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Decent benefits if you can make a career out of IBM Some really smart and talented people. People pull together to accomplish amazing things in spite of an overall toxic culture.

    Cons

Horrible Executive Management...no concern for employees. Constantly looking to replace more expensive workers with cheap labor. Continued reduction in salary, benefits year over year.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Ginni Rometty. Treat employees well and customers will benefit and stop leaving.
