I worked at IBM full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent compensation, benefits, training, time-off and great work-life balance.

    Cons

The company is in flux, constantly changing and shifting the organizations and solutions based on market trends. Company values no longer match their business trend. Frequent layoffs lead to job insecurity, negatively impacting employee morale and loyalty to the company.

    Advice to Management

Limit layoffs to poor performing individuals, not high-performing individuals who make the company millions in new revenue each year and those with exceeds expectations on their yearly reviews. Eliminate redundancy in administrative systems, tools, documentation sites, collab tools, etc leveraging only the BEST solutions.

I worked at IBM as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

You are provided the opportunity to work with professionals in the IT industry. Managers work closely with interns and provide various projects and tasks to test your technological skills. I even had the chance to manage my own project involving the design and development of a employee lap top database. If you put yourself out there you can find some unique opportunities. Great building.

    Cons

Poorly organized and did not establish enough work for on coming interns. I found myself very bored more than I had anticipated. Training is a two week process.

    Advice to Management

Take more time to plan for the internship prior to it beginning.

    Pros

job security, big company insurance package, ability to move up - but limited. I met a lot of great people at the job and still keep in touch with them.

    Cons

monotonous, "Office Space" movie-esque, typical office politics, you are definitely faceless and the management does not have a clean hold on what goes on. I don't understand how management can make suggestions and implement action plans when they have never picked up the phone and dealt with the problems we had to. the managers don't even know the equipment. I made the mistake of ONCE asking for help on a call and the manager looked at me blankly and tried to come up with some kind of answer. It was oh so very painful.

    Advice to Management

promote those who deserve, not those who you like to talk to
