I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I consider myself to be a "graybeard" having been around IBM for 20+ years. Over the course of my career I've learned, delivered and succeeded multiple times for multiple clients. Most importantly, I got to decide exactly what I wanted to do each step of the way. During 2016, I participated with the IBM Corporate Service Corps, deployed to Dakar, Senegal with 14 other practitioners to work on several "pro bono" projects that will pay dividends to the Senegalese people and to IBM. I must say this project stands alone as being a highlight of my IBM career.

    Cons

Like any other organization you must deal with a bureaucracy; however, IBM continues to re-make itself and to remain relevant all practitioner's are challenged to do the same, continuously.

    Advice to Management

    #NewIBM... move forward with integrity.

"IBM Public Sector Consulting is a good place to work"

I worked at IBM (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Public sector consultants mostly stay in the DC area, so there isn't as much travel as commercial consultants.
    - Pay starts off very competitive when you're first hired on.
    - IBM's software suite and knowledge base is unmatched.
    - Good coworkers, good clients, good work/life balance.

    Cons

    - IBM is very stingy about bonuses, and annual raises do not keep up with the market. After you've been at IBM for a while you're better off leaving for a year or two, then coming back, in order to stay at a competitive salary.
    - There's a lot of bureaucracy and pointless busywork that affects your annual performance review. But that's probably unavoidable at a company the size of IBM.

    Advice to Management

Make sure that you focus on retaining your talented employees, rather than just acquiring them. Pay loyal employees a competitive market wage, just as you do for new hires.

I have been working at IBM (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing breadth of work, tons of opportunities to dive into industries and grow skill sets exponentially.

    Cons

Typical cons from working at a large company, changes happen slowly (but many do seem to be for the better). Bureaucracy can be slow, but can be a pro when compared to small companies. For example: established practices for promotions, etc rather than by the whim of a manager/owner.
