I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

This company is on the leading edge of both technology and diversity inclusion. The opportunities I have working in a company that has everything are amazing. IBM is demanding and fast pased, but still allows plenty of space and flexibility to take care of myself and family.

    Cons

Challenging to navigate across different business units and stay in strategic areas of the business.

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Talented peers, strong company benefits, lots of opportunity

    Cons

Lack of transparency, frenetic directional changes, lack of clear vision

    Advice to Management

As IBM tries to evolve to become a first rate cloud player, stick to what the company is good at (solving complex problems for enterprise customers) rather than just chasing what made AWS and Microsoft great cloud offerings.

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It's big, so lots of people to engage with, learn from, and explore new areas to work. Generally speaking, most people are paid fairly, and there are some limited opportunities to transfer into new roles.

    Cons

The cover of the book is not the same as the content. Loyalty to employees is driven more around public perception of true concern for the individual. Too many of the senior or top level executives are not managers and more interested in their personal careers over the people reporting to them. Top level executives are completely disconnected from the bulk of the employees, focused more on revenue and bottom line... performance. Easy to get lost in the shuffle.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting people into management positions who perform at a specific task or prior job, but lack management skills. This seems to be a problem from the top down, so not sure how they can fix it.

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Long term vision. The cultural transformation is happening. Focus on new hires from colleges is bringing the speed. Industry pay, above average benefits. A wealth of learning resources. Embracing agile.

    Cons

Too frequent changes in organization and direction. Too big.

    Advice to Management

Split company to be nimble and fast.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Pay and Benefits, Peers, Very Talented People

    Cons

Constant movement of jobs to lower cost geographies; loyalty is one way; appraisals are on a curve. Culture and values are a slogan and applied with taffy. Professional hire retention rate is low

    Advice to Management

Become customer facing and not so internally focused

    Pros

Smart people, really nice people and caring environment

    Cons

    I worked at IBM full-time

    Pros

Smart people, decent benefits, work from home

    Cons

Everyone is overloaded. Every time there is a layoff, they don't replace people and the existing workforce has to pick up the slack.
