I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Work from home, diverse engagements, flexible working conditions, great team, extremely bright people to bounce ideas off of.

    Cons

On-going training or continuous education isn't very formalized. The testers are fairly autonomous without too much directional guidance from management.

    Advice to Management

Help guide employees and create clear goals and objectives for their development.

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Flexible work option (2 days per month). PMP certification reimbursable after approval by management. It is possible to gain a secret clearance (to move to the DC area). Descent entry level experience. 401k vested at start and employer match at 6%. Medical and dental benefits. Pretty stable environment.

    Cons

They say because the cost of living is lower they offer a low wage. Entry level starts between band 1-4 which is around $12.50 and $18.50 per hour. If you want to transfer to another department, be prepared to be low balled through your IBM career. It is extremely difficult to transfer, get promoted or obtain a substantial pay increase. Employee portion of medical benefits are expensive! The local area is not good....

    Advice to Management

Push to increase salaries, and retain talent pool by providing real opportunities for advancement. Part of the purpose of entry-level jobs is for employees to grow and move on to more advanced careers within the organization. Not to hold them in the low cost IBM abyss.

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Great people, products, and line managers. Flexible work environment and facilities.

    Cons

Little to no investment in legacy product line that still generated good revenue. Travel policies that did not take the into account the strain on the employee(Flying coach for 20 hours to a customer engagement is bruta especially true if one is over 6 ft tall). Bonus plan for employees in a non sales role almost non existent. To much customer interaction done via conference call instead of face to face. Preach...
