I worked at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    * Many good co-workers * Variety of projects

    Cons

    * Management exploits employees, no real concern for employee or family life * Arbitrary measurement systems and bonus metrics * The best-skilled people have either left or are looking to leave

    Advice to Management

    * Return to your core value/belief system * As the job market has tightened so much recently, you will be paying the price for ceasing to value your employees * Think long-term, not quarter-to-quarter * Return to training employees (and not requiring they get training on their own time)

    I worked at IBM

    Pros

Remote work acceptable, and direct management is fine

    Cons

Some of the employees have an "attitude" about contractors and it is very disruptive to overall progress

    Advice to Management

Be more flexible with contractors and consider them a valuable part of the team not a necessary evil.

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

IBM has a lot of the pros of a big company. Good benefits, flexible working times and lots of great employees to work with. There are lots of opportunities to move around and grow your career in IBM as well!

    Cons

The primary con was the long working hours. It was up to you how to manage them, but be aware of that going in. Also, now at IBM is their relatively new policy on layoffs, where all employees regardless of seniority get only one month's severance when the benefit for severance used to be much better for experienced employees.

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Peers and immediate team members were fantastic people.

    Cons

Threat of layoff every quarter. Only care about the bottom line, not retaining customers.

    Advice to Management

To C-Suite management: Mass quarterly layoffs, which result in less people to do the same amount of work, causes burnout and customer dissat. If you keep your people happy, you'll be able to keep your customers happy and grow your business. You're throwing away excellent resources just to save a buck.
