I worked at ICAP plc full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Salary, you are paid for the abuse you will endure here. Count only the salary as a pro. And pto days

    Cons

They are overly demanding and treat you inhumanly. You are constantly on call and even if you have to take a call in the middle of the night, you are expected to be in the office the next day on time regardless. Also, work from home on the weekends, there is no comp time or reward. bonus will be peanuts. If you see brokertec in the description, don't change jobs for this. Only take it if you have no other options whatsoever. This is a career ending opportunity. Don't take a trading support titled role here. They also fire people for the dumbest reasons, without any warnings, right before bonus time at the end of April. No job security at all. No flexibility at all. No work from home other than weekends which they require. The work itself is same thing over and over.. a lot of downtime where you are just sitting in the office as required. Rotating shifts are a joke. Team lead is anal that each shift be covered to the last minute. (7-4/8-5/9-6/10-7) so when you request a day off and are even 8-5/9-6 you get asked the stupid question of who will cover that shift. In a reasonable environment, the important shifts required are early and late.. there's an overlap that will cover the day shifts. But in this place... extremely stupid....

    Advice to Management

Become human and give some flexibility to the employees.. some have a life outside of work.

    Pros

Casual attire-nice to work in NJ

    Cons

Absolutely no job security or loyalty. No teamwork, you work as an individual within your group and you better keep up your revenue because they will cut your salary every month.

    Pros

    Decent pay, close to NYC.

    Cons

Expect to work 60 hour weeks as the norm. Will only let you book 40. Benefits and entire departments keep getting cut.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to manage through fear.

I have been working at ICAP plc full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work-life balance is great, health benefits are OK but very expensive

    Cons

    Where do I start?
Icap EBS is like nothing I have seen in my life and if I shared even an ounce what goes on there you'd think I am making it up. No leadership, no vision, no strategy, no competency, no loyalty, no growth, no future.
The only concern is cost-cutting at the expense of everything.
I'd run from any job offers, I would not recommend this place to anyone and I cannot wait to leave!
I would rate the company -5 stars if I could. There is no consideration for process, policy, proper management of ideas. The leadership is senior in title, but extremely inexperienced in running a company.
The company offers health benefits, which you need in case you are at the brink of a nervous breakdown caused by the crazy circus you will report to everyday. No 401K matching, benefits are very expensive. No consideration for diversity, mentorship, networking etc.
I can go on for days, but the bottom line is avoid this place at all cost.

    Advice to Management

Hire some competent management, at least someone who knows what process is and why we should follow it

    Pros

Great people, deepth and diversity of talent pool is unequalled anywhere. Challenging assignments. Innovation is encouraged at the highest levels of senior management.

    Cons

Of late politics have replaced the meritocracy that previously existed. ICAP has some growing pains to endure as their holdings become more IT centric.

    Advice to Management

Middle management must become aligned with senior management. People need to be free to innovate and take moderate, resonible risk without fear of failure.

    Pros

You will enjoy the work if you are 50+ and not looking for any professional growth.
You may get to work on good stuffs in you join the electronic trading group

    Cons

Tons and tons of internal politics. One company with many internal groups who don’t even talk to each other.

Do not go there if you are a software engineer. They do not respect your technical skills.

People fight for product ownership, your manager will make you work like dog and you will never get any visibility.

No promotion, no chance of a promotion even if you work there for 10 years.

The compensation and benefits not par with the competitors.

    Advice to Management

Time to go home... Let the young blood lead...
Working smart is not sitting in office for 13 hours a day.

    Pros

Technical learning curve is good because of a few sound professionals. It you manage your superiors and their expectations correctly, you can have a laid back environment. Also they have not had many lay offs, so you are secure in this market.

    Cons

Management is very wishy washy in terms of understanding time-work ratio, recognizing accomplishments, rewarding accomplishments, approachability and decision making capabilities. For instance the management thinks the number of hours at work is more important than either quality of work or accomplishments over and above your yearly goals. There is also a lot of politics that influence the workings of the technology team, information is not passed around to team mates and is kept as privileged information for control, a few blame games and numerous coffee room maneuvering which has in the past two years taken a toll on employees in general. Benefits are average to sub average.

    Advice to Management

Make sure management incompetence is not tried to be pushed down the ladder and that all employees are being treated fairly.

    Advice to Management

I worked at ICAP plc full-time

    Pros

At the top, they seem to be into innovation and steering the company overall towards that.

    Cons

It can be a ruthless atmosphere at times, especially for someone who's new to the business and industry. There is not a great system of mentorship or guidance, especially in an atmosphere that's facing industrywide challenges, and one that's trying to come to grips with innovation that's sometimes negatively effecting the business. No room for learning or autonomy.

    Advice to Management

Create more effective feedback channels so that your employees can work constructively to support each other. Provide ways for your employees to take a break from their day to day and learn more about the industry and opportunities within the company.
