Selling expensive paint for cheap wages
Oct 4, 2022 - Store ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
No Sunday working. Apart from that I can’t think of anything else.
Cons
Where to begin. Stores are left on the limit of having enough staff, which means with illness & sickness you can be on your own. With this, there is no overtime. So if a colleague builds up a substantial amount of lieu then you’re going to be left alone. Systems are ridiculously complicated and everything is under a microscope! If you don’t press the correct button or forget to run one report you’d think the company would collapse. The expectations of a store manager for the wage of £25-28k are unrealistic. You’re lucky if you’re in a quiet store, if not you’ve got no chance of sorting out audit, store standards or account management issues. Area managers are either from an unrelated industry such as food or clothing. Which means they have no experience with traders or contractors. Dulux is the most expensive paint on the market, can’t force anyone to buy it. They also micromanage to within an inch of your life! God forbid you’re ever struggling. Worked through the entire of Covid with 1 staff member, never got paid only got half my lieu back. Area manager was non existent. When there was a problem they would ring me working from home while I’m working my bollocks off. Companies useless. Stay clear.

Over worked under paid unappreciated
Jan 25, 2023 - Assistant Manager in Manchester, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Each day is not the same which is great. It doesn't get boring. Rapport you build with customers is great and Majority of colleagues in store level are brilliant
Cons
Management - the higher management team. Have no people skills at all, I worked there for a very long time but not it is very robotic. The work load is massive - even for a sales assistant but the.pay unfortunately doesn't reflect that.

No Sunday working Healthy discount for products Perks at work incentives Free parking
Cons
Lone working, constantly. Most stores are open from 6am-5pm, but if there's only 2 of you, you'll be lone working for 2 hours each plus when someone takes lunch. Systems are horrific. Go down on an almost daily routine. Then it's pen and paper while you have a queue and usually lone working (see above). No pay increase in years. New starters and Assistant Managers on more than you. No overtime allowed, take it back in lieu which is impossible when you have no staff. The amount of times lone working for 11 hrs with no lunch/drinks is illegal but they get away with it time after time. Then you're expected to put 3 pallets+ of delivery away whilst serving and taking calls. No work/life balance Departments not talking to each other. Procedures taking up most of your day when you're trying your best to hit targets. Supply issues EVERY YEAR like clockwork. Never have enough stock.
