I worked at ICR full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You will be overworked and burned out, and management will do nothing to help you. It's not even their fault... there is literally nothing they can do. The ICR model is flawed at it's core. The obsession with "growth" and profit means that the firm runs lean and is constantly and purposefully understaffed. High margins are of utmost importance. Junior staff suffers the most. Pay is not competitive for you have to do....

    Cons

-Consumer is an unevolved practice with old guard clients, therefore aren’t winning business with emerging consumer companies - For positioning themselves as an integrated communications firm, ICR tends to operate in very siloed practices that make it impossible to get anything done in a timely manner. - The review process is horrific; would advise that new employees schedule weekly or bi- weekly one-on-ones with managers....

    Advice to Management

Reevaluate the way you utilize your staff, respect work-life balance and don’t treat people like they’re another cog in the wheel.

I have been working at ICR full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is growing and expanding in many directions so there's a lot of opportunity in newer departments. You have to learn quickly but they provide a good amount of training. The best part about this company is the fact it's a leader in its field, that tends to put a lot of people off because they don't want to deal with workload associated with it. You just have to come into it with an understand of what you're...

    Cons

It comes with the territory but well know clients tend to not want to meet with new associates about big matters, and I know that's one of the things people enjoy about the job; meeting clients. A good amount of your work ends up being supporting the management who will then meet with clients. The NYC office can be a hostile work environment, especially among the women there. They're extremely competitive and hard workers...

I have been working at ICR full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Just like many of the other reviews say, the truth is that the pay is better than most PR/IR agencies. You may also have the opportunity to work with some well known, Fortune 500 companies. They give four weeks of vacation from the start - but oh boy, you'll feel like you'll need more.

    Cons

I didn't want to believe more than half of the glass door reviews before accepting the position. I thought, hey, all these people just had a bad experience. It can't be all that true. WRONG. The work culture is toxic and upper management PROMOTES a competitor work evironment amongst team members. I'm friendly with many members on my team, and have heard upper management say extremely inappropriate, degrading and belittling...

    Advice to Management

Take a look around and acknowledge the high turnover. the sad thing is that once you leave this company, they'll talk negatively about your name and will make comments as, "oh, he/she wasn't cut out for her, he couldn't handle it". I've heard it time and time again. Upper management, I advise you listen to junior staff, and promote them while they deserve it/talk to them like human beings, or you'll continue to see the...

I worked at ICR full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Unorthodox definition of "integrated" helps PR employees understand connection between financials and PR. A few really good apples. Decent pay.

    Cons

This place was founded by a couple of Wall Street bros and you can tell it's still run by them. Total boys club focused on the bottom line, often at the expense of clients and employees. Very few women in senior management positions and senior managers are hostile, creepy or both. Way behind the times in terms of PR.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company, hire better senior leaders

I have been working at ICR full-time for more than 10 years

      Pros

ICR is an evolving entity with considerable potential and loads of opportunity. Having been with the firm for close to a decade I’ve witnessed firsthand its dynamic growth, which is a direct result of the entrepreneurial culture, knowledgeable professionals and differentiated approach to advancing clients’ communications objectives. In a word, ICR is a place of “doers.” Providing the highest level of client service...

      Cons

To fuel sustained growth, ICR needs to continue to change the perception that it’s solely an investor relations shop. In fact, the firm is much more than that. ICR has transformed into a full-service corporate communications firm capable of addressing any investor relations, public relations, branding, crisis and reputation management need.

I have been working at ICR full-time

      Pros

ICR is hands down the best communications agency I've ever worked at, which is why I find some of the recent negative reviews highly distorted and offensive for those who are happy, proud and thriving here. It isn't difficult to deduce who these bitter individuals are and they all have something in common. They were either terminated for poor performance, or left because they saw the writing on the wall (when they realized...

      Cons

For over 15 years, ICR has been one of the fastest growing communications firms in the country. As with any high growth companies, there are growing and learning pains. In hindsight, mistakes were made and not every decision yielded ideal results. But this is also why there are huge opportunities for those with solutions and initiative. There are many competitive Type A personalities and some may not thrive on that....

      Advice to Management

ICR was founded by former Wall Street veterans. Not having followed a traditional PR path, there isn't a natural instinct for PR practices and methodologies that other agencies follow. However, management has been open to trying new things.

I worked at ICR full-time for less than a year

        Pros

I guess the HR department asked a few long term employees to please write some good reviews to balance out the plethora of negative ICR ones. It's filled with backstabbers and of all the teams I only saw one that functioned properly without drama.

        Cons

This place is terrible-only the partners who push work off to the minions will tell you otherwise--they have a financial obligation to keep up the charade. They are also NOT a full service PR firm---they tried but the guy in charge of it was a total neophyte who thought he knew everything and was always "Traveling for work" but all he did was belly up to the bar for client dinners and repeat the same rehearsed script....
