I worked at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company is best in the industry, R&D is top-notch, benefits and pay are competitive or better.

    Cons

Hiring process is painfully difficult and slow. Internal promotion is difficult - it's easier to quit and come back as a new hire in a new position - more money, better position.

    Advice to Management

Consider current employees for posted openings. Consistently hiring from the outside is demoralizing.

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Innovation is palpable from the top down at IDEXX. You feel like you are working for a company that is doing good in the world. The CEO is a humble and approachable intellect not a bottom line only driven type but someone who fosters creativity and innovation and that is why IDEXX is doing just that.

    Cons

Individual team structure lacking, some incompetent people who have been around for ages seem to exist just to derail progress rather than getting retrained and doing something useful.

    Advice to Management

Look at the members of your team that are innovating and acknowledge them. Retrain people that serve only to do busy work and cause drama. Don't be afraid to acknowledge individual progress or you will lose the best minds.

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company has the top overall market share in most major facets of the veterinary industry.

    Cons

Purely stock driven. No visible reinvestment, terrible management as far up the ladder as I can see. Minimal respect for the businesses that we serve. I have been extremely successful but that has come with working far outside of my stated job duties. Reputation has gone significantly downhill over the past 5 years. Company is aware that they are one of few major employers in area- allow that to take advantage of employees.

    Advice to Management

Greed can only get you so far moving forward. Treat your employees and veterinary businesses with respect.

    Pros

Growing company, great coworkers, company values/mission were easy to get behind. Felt like I could get behind the products and the benefits they provided to the marketplace. Maine is a great place to live and work.

    Cons

    Can be an intense environment.

    Advice to Management

    Salaries could be more competitive.

I worked at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The only good thing about working at Idexx is that they pay pretty well. But be prepared to give up your entire social life.

    Cons

They do not care about employees one bit. They can't keep a full staff because no one wants to be there. They used to be so lenient about the dress code but that's over. They've taken away everything that used to be good about the job. Please do not get sucked in.

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying about standardization so much. It really sucks actually.

    Pros

The culture is great and really allows you to be your own entrepreneur, we have great benefits and the job security is great.

    Cons

It's in Maine, hard to get in, everything is a fire drill, parking is horrible, salary could be higher, traveling out of Portland is miserable

    Advice to Management

We are growing fast and not hiring enough

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good way to get entry level experience

    Cons

Training is spotty. Morale low. Horrible wor/life balance. Management plays favortism & can mistreat employees at times freely. Understaffed. Overworked techs for not enough pay. Stay here only if you can't do better elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Pay more. Hire more bodies to relieve undue stress on techs to promote better work environment & less turn over. You lose your best techs due to lack of proper pay and failing to cross train. Treat the employees as well as your clients and it'd actually be a GREAT place to work.
