I worked at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits such as Health, PTO. Shifts somewhat flexible when you have seniority. Awesome group of people to work with. Upper management will listen, just have to be patient. Improvements are continually being made to benefit the employees and the company.

    Cons

Not a whole lot of ways to move up or advance in your career here. Pay could be better. There is a lot of turnover in Support and in management.

    Advice to Management

    none

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, strong hold in market place, friendly coworkers,

    Cons

Management rewards themselves first and the scraps go to the folks who get the work done. If you aren't one of the dark haired boys, you can kiss your chances of promotion away- women need not apply.

    Advice to Management

Get with the program or you could find yourself in Matt Lauer's shoes.

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I love working for IDEXX. IDEXX truly believes in their purpose of increasing the well-being of pets, people, and livestock. The work they are doing to deliver on this goal is incredible. They care about their customers (human or pet) and their employees and it is apparent in all that they do.

One of my favorite things is the focus on employee wellness. They go above and beyond to ensure we are working in a healthy, positive environment and provide us with great opportunities to better ourselves (whether it's through a gym class or webinar on how to stay healthy through the holidays).

    Cons

It isn't always easy finding job openings/advancement opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be transparent with your employees.

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - One "fun day" every month (usually means a free, hour long lunch that we get paid for, or sometimes means a free outing of some sort).
    - Good health benefits
    - Yearly bonuses and pay reviews
    - Employee stock purchase plan, 401k
    - Free prescription safety glasses, shoe inserts, and steel-toed shoes for those who need them
    - Free health clinic (Intermed) on site
    - State of the art gym that only costs $14/month and they reimburse that if you go twice a week (your spouse gets a complimentary membership)
    - Discounts at local businesses
    - Tuition assistance/reimbursement program
    - Maternity/paternity leave

    Cons

    - Huge disparity between the hourly and salary employees
    - You cap out around $20/hour if you work in instrument manufacturing and really need to get at least a bachelors degree in a related field to move up to a better pay grade
    - Expectations can be very high and there is sometimes little support given to help employees meet these goals
    - Takes a long time to get answers or to solve issues because there is such a huge chain of command

    Advice to Management

Overall, I think management of my area is pretty great. This is the best job I have had by far and I know that the frustrations I have are echoed by my superiors, so it's not as though they aren't listening; it's just hard to enact changes when there are so many people involved.

I worked at IDEXX Laboratories part-time

    Pros

Great pay and the team was a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

It felt like management often dealt things in a personal way rather than professional. Lack of communication from management

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Generous PTO
    Great retirement matching
    Awesome headquarter campus

    Cons

Satellite facilities are very very different from headquarters. Having been to headquarters and a couple different satellite sites and working at a satellite site. There is a complete 180 from everything from environment, how it's ran, and campuses. Westbrook is great but seems to breed an intense amount of competition but promotions and ability to climb are there. Satellite campuses/sites are usually not as well maintained and there's not a lot of ability to move up. There seems to be this weird phenomenon if you so your job really well and are efficient you have to take on more responsibility, without extra pay, even do as more us two other people at times. Especially if you are salaried. If you are a poor performer you can blame others and do less and less work with minimal to no repercussions. If you whine and complain to HR enough you can pretty well get your way.

    Advice to Management

Really look at you satellite campuses and see what is going on.

I worked at IDEXX Laboratories part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great company to work for. It gave me invaluable corporate experience and the internship program was structured really well.

    Cons

Was pigeon-hold into meaningless work that was not on the application, however, was later moved to a more senior role.

    Advice to Management

Try to allow the interns to grow more in the field they are studying in. Interns want to learn as much as possible during their time.

    Pros

Growth company, serves an important purpose: pet health - very innovative, strong IT systems, recent Workday implementation helps, career opportunities for those who want to work for them.

    Cons

Fast paced environment - requires staying up to date with new products, improved processes, etc. Thus, not for those who desire a static environment

    Advice to Management

Keep employees up to date on the big picture, priorities, progress within the department.

I worked at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to work with smart people, solve problems, take charge of issues, and sometimes feel good about what's been accomplished.

    Cons

Management has no clue, or maybe just doesn't care, about how to reward and retain good people. Middle managers seem to care only about how to impress their bosses. Upper management seems unconcerned about issues facing first line managers and specialists. Results of employee surveys are ignored.

    Advice to Management

IDEXX is being hollowed out in your pursuit of quarterly bottom line results. Find a way to rebuild the company or be looking for new jobs.
