I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good place to work. Vaca time is good. Benefits are good. If you have good management you have a good job. If not, look elsewhere.

    Cons

Way to much work for the people working. Management is always changing you responsibility, hard to do your job. You are are a qualified tech, they keep you from being able to do your job correctly.

    Advice to Management

Ask the techs what would help:). Not management telling techs their jobs:)

    Pros

Employees are passionate about what they do and their customers. Good starter job. Benefits are good especially for salary employees at one IDEXX

    Cons

Disorganized, short handed, to many politics. Favoritism and gender biases is rampant. They only want young good soldiers who do as told. No ideas or diversity welcome here

    Advice to Management

Recognize that loyalty and hard work will keep things stable. Stop coddling the youngsters, foster a work environment where people are not afraid to speak up and offer feedback or opinions

I worked at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

IDEXX' products and services are great; employees are friendly and passionate. The company is doing great and will do great the coming years.

    Cons

Number one complaint is that departments are heavily understaffed. People are overworked. Decisions from management are not transparent. Promotions are solely based on politics, not performance. It's all about maximizing revenue. Many reorganizations.

    Advice to Management

The employees really care about the company, but many of them feel overworked and not appreciated. This would be a great company to work for if people are being treated fair.

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

People that you work with or near is what makes the place a good environment. Work is not hard

    Cons

Communication with management is terrible. Pay could be better. Hiring on process takes a year or longer, stress cause of the budget. Rely on too many temps. Slow promotion process

    Advice to Management

Communicate with your people. The place isn't that big to not too. Acknowledge yourself to new employees instead of walking by not looking. Offer a better pay n at least good raises.

    Pros

Friendly environment (for the most part). Decent health benefits. Management seems lost the majority of the time. No direction, lack of leadership.

    Cons

Internal company morale was very bad due to upper management neglect. There is no such thing as promotion from within-this company’s idea of promotion from within is for employee that are interested in any openings to go through the same hiring process as a new candidate (update your resume and submit it to HR). Guess they don't know their own employees, which is really sad. Lots of nepotism within the hiring managers.

The company is always looking for new talent as they don't want to spend any $$$ to keep their Senior techs. Who will do the job in a more timely manner and move on to the next job. Instead, They rather hire drop outs or high school kids at 15hr and feed them the usual line.. “Your going to see the world”

The Europe and Latin division was put under the control of the US division by a team who didn’t speak the language nor know the culture and didn’t even maintain a good business relationship. All they wanted was to see was sales and eventually pulled out of both leaving hundreds of distributors and clients in limbo with no alternative. You can’t claim to be an International company when all you do is take customers money and from one day to the next pull out leaving no alternative. I thought morale was bad before I left but it plummeted thereafter. If the economy was the same as in 2005 or even 2007, everybody would have jumped ship.

    Advice to Management

Stop abusing of your employees even on they're last day before your going to fire them. Give them a better work life balance.

    Pros

    Job security.Job is not hard

    Cons

Low pay, very bad on nepotism. The company doesn't believe in hiring from within, the Caucasian supervisors bring in their relatives and friends to fill open positions.

    Advice to Management

Give seasoned employees opportunity to grow with the company through advancement. Supervisors need diversity training. The workforce is 99% Afro-American but majority of managers are Caucasian -not good.

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great insurance, above-average pay for the area, , wonderful activities staff (Karen, Sharon, Christine, Jane), Amazing Cafe'. Company provides lunch on days when the rest of the company has a holiday. Above-average time off. Great fitness center (if you can get there). Fun activities within the center (Halloween decorating and costume contest, gardening teams)

    Cons

Extremely low morale - high percentage hate being there due to poor operational decisions.

    Zero flexibility, unqualified management (some)

Marketing places the call center employee in precarious situations by making unsound decisions (for example: Call practices telling them of final days of a promotion to get them to make large purchase, then extend promotion because they want more sales which leaves employee with egg on face after pushing final deadline heavily).

They give benefits and take them away (increased quarterly bonus incentive but withdrew the increase).

No flexibility with adjusting schedule even though half of the day is outbound calls.

Quarterly bonus is calculated from the base pay, not actual sales. Most everyone's quarterly bonus is at the bottom of the range for their position.

Managers all have their own agenda, different rules on different teams.

Some managers are verbally abusive and still have their jobs.

Other departments in IDEXX might be great, but this area I wouldn't recommend to anyone who wants to feel good about their job.

    Advice to Management

Sales people need to be rewarded for sales. There are no rewards, therefore it can't be considered a sales position. Consider changing the pay structure to one that has the bonus based on actual sales.

If an employee wants to take a class at the fitness center once or twice a week, allow a bit of flexibility in their schedule. You can always adjust the outbound time without impacting answered calls.

I would suggest making an exclusive outbound team to promote the new tests and make suggestions about increasing which tests are run in-house. Let customer service handle the inbound sales calls. Customers are being inundated with the same topic every time they call in and when the outbound calls are made which makes the outbound calls hard to do.

Get all of your managers on the same page!!! Rules can't be different from team to team.

Put more thought into the decisions you make and the impact they will have on customers (and employees).

    Pros

flexible hours, other lab technicians are great to work with, relaxed dress code, two paid days to volunteer at a charity a year,

    Cons

managers are all former professors from the University of Missouri after a buyout and are terrible at managing, I've seen several long term employees whose position was "restructured" only to have the same position filled with someone with a PhD and no supervisory experience whatsoever. Management has repeatedly been told how horrible the leaders are and do nothing. Advancement rarely ever happens

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees about the problems and you will quit losing all the good people.
